Received mine yesterday by courier, although i had to pay an extra "tax" to the Icelandic mafia customs of £3.50 before i could get my hands on it...
And my first impressions? the torch was a little fiddly to use and with the UV ink, it took a little getting used to find the extra text, especially as it was a Sunny evening, but this morning with it being very gloomy and overcast, i can see the UV rather nicely
. the little touches such as the tentacles in the sewers and dark corners and the subliminal messaging the the ads was a really nice touch.
The Story? I found it worked really well as an tight self contained one piece, similar to what Warren did with Apparat Single Vol 1. I liked the use of both high and low tech ideas to avoid modern electronic surveillance.
Overall, i think that this was an interesting comic book that took one of the unique aspects of the comic form (the ability to project a characters speech and thought at the same time) and reworked it into a futurist format that mirrors this new burgeoning aspect of our society....
I just got mine, I'm in Toronto, but my torch won't light, so I've sent Berg an email. Looks great, though. I'm trying to decide if I should read it once without the torch and then again when my replacement comes in. Or just wait. Or just read the Gibson intro...
Received mine in NYC today. Torch broken =( I'm debating if I should read it through first without using the torch anyways, then re-reading to see what I missed by being outside his head.
Mine arrived a couple of days back, I think, but I mistook it for BoringMail because they'd elastic'd it to a bank statement. Finished a non-torch reading of it last night, and I agree, I want to see more of Woodwind kicking ass and reading minds. Or a prequel. Overall, loving it, and the Object is a lovely design.
I emailed about my broken torch, got a reply few hours later saying a new one was dispatched to me. Havent gotten it yet but I did read it through without it and am excited to read it a second time with it!
