So that number of clubs where I have connections to potentially score gigs for people? Just went up to three. Turns out if you go mix a gig for free (I love the band, and it's a free club) you may well find yourself with a handful of nights as a soundman, plus a paycheck of some sort.

    Huh.

What you smilin' about today, Whitechapel?

well this weekend my band played an amazing gig at the local pirate bar, the place was bouncing!

the next day my dad and i drove from aberdeen to glasgow to see The Quitessential James Taylor play an ASTOUNDING set. goddamnit that man can hold an audience of 5000 in the palm of his hand.

THEN we drove back up and i played another gig this time for a battle of the bands heat (grand prize 2 grand!). it was us a (2 piece noise band) and 3 separate other guys playing acoustic guitars.... we won! next up the semi finals!

i haven't had that good a weekend in YEARS

    Hmm...well...

    - I've reached the point in my Physics book where going back to reread over and over because I don't get the theory being put forth is getting rare, which is making the book all the more enjoyable.

    - I bought a pair of running/gym shorts yesterday that are a bit shorter than I'm used to (I usually wear ones that go down to the knee and these new ones expose...well, a lot of thigh). And I've taken a leap and wore them all day today. I'm self-conscious as all hell, but I guess it's a step to being okay with my looks? I don't know.

    - Got a rough brainstorming draft of the beer label for Audacious Bitch (my homebrew) that I'm commissioning mojokingbee to do and I'm very excited.

    - Late last night an idea for a photoshoot came to me. It's financially feasible and will allow me to go back to the bloody stuff. Will start to get supplies this weekend for a (hopefully) next weekend shoot. Can't give any details except the words "bloody" and "nerdy".
[EDIT] Model and Special Effects/Make-up guy CONFIRMED FOR THE SHOOT!)

    - got an e-mail from a comic writer friend of mine with some very exciting news. Not sure if I'm allowed to talk about it, so I won't.

I SVK today! I hadn't ordered it, and a few days ago my boyfriend teased me by giving me a tracking number for a gift he'd gotten me, and to my surprise today when it arrived it was SVK. Reading now, so far loving the hidden parts. So happy! :D

@ oldhat - your looks are FINE (he said, in a totally not-creepy way.) Congrats on the home-brew.

I'm still alive, is the best I can report. (Sad news, for some people. But GOOD NEWS FOR ME!!!)
And that this thread is no fun if Warren isn't around to be annoyed by it. Does Ariana hate this thread? Please tell me she hates this thread.

The anthology I'm contributing too ( Womanthology ) has really taken off! ouo They've raised enough to do a run of 5k books instead of 1k ! :D
I also am, for the first time going to get to work with a writer And and Editor :D I'm super excited.

I still wish I had gotten to order SVK but it sold out before my money got in the bank XD Which I guess is a good thing, it sold amazingly well! :D

    Hugs all around! :D

I'm having a swell week and will awkwardly hug anyone that throws up their arms. Recipes for the Dead is doing awesome (second most popular comic book on Kickstarter, right after Womanthology - which by the way, Neila, that book has me wriggling with excitement!) And I've been motivated all week by the really frickin' nice comments - I can't even repeat them for fear of jinx!

SVK ran out before I finished scrounging up my order, but I'm on the mailing list and am really happy that it's doing so well - what a cool concept.

A numerical list a lot has happened.

    1) I got my Secret Garden Party tickets!
    2) I got my order of Bad Signal 1 and Nextwave and have leant some comics to myh friend. Hopefully He'll need to buy them for himself and I'll sell them to him.
    3) Got The MiddleMan today and aforementioned friend liked it.
    4) Making payments for things for shop. I have never been this glad to give people money. Also Sihn is up!
    5) Started running again.
  1.  (10035.9)
    A short list:

-Had a job interview with a small law firm, hopefully all things are good.
-Discovered Netflix and the joy of "Trailer Park Boys" on demand.
-WWII Vet grandfather was put in and then removed same day at hospital. Had aches in chest in the middle of the night, turns out it was nothing serious. Went back into today for irregular heartbeat, hoping things go well.
-Merged "In Rainbows" and "OK Computer" to form the secret "Radiohead" album.
-"SVK" came in the mail, and it kicks all sorts of ass from top to bottom.
-Lost weight by actually going to a gym. It also gives time to listen to random and insane podcasts.

The base had a Change of Command today. The new colonel seems nice. They had very good snacks at the following reception, and rainbow cake chocolates were devoured.

We went through some old film reels at work today, looking at the labels and trying to find a specific thing from the 60's. Didn't find it, but we did find some with rather interesting labels. Ryan Firefish was my favorite for a second, but then we found one that looked to be classified, one that was missing most labels, but had a sticker on the side that read "Atomic Drop / Japan" which is odd since our base had little or nothing to do with that, and one labeled only with "This film is an historical document and is not intended to reflect current doctrine, policies or PLNS. Not for release to the public." I really wish we had a projector.

We also watched a bit of Dugway propaganda from the 40's that was digitally copied from one of those film reels. It was neat. I may be able to get a dvd of it for use that isn't official, like showing friends.

I framed the most awful thing today. I couldn't stop laughing. It basically was a weird sort of Photoshop job that gave credit to the local wild mustangs for our country's security and freedom.

Got off work an hour early.

Came home to freshly baked cookies and banana bread.

Edit: I also worked things out with the boyfriend who I broke up with earlier in the week. Won't be getting back together again, but are now on speaking terms. I plan to embrace being single, and to be comfortable with it. No more relationships for a while for me.

Short version: I punched someone in the face several times.

Long version: Had an amazing workout at the boxing gym and helped my instructor out on defence and I managed to get a few shots in. It was also a real thrill to hear the head coach and owner of the gym shout "THAT'S IT! HIT HER, VALKYRIE! HIT HER!" Being cheered made me feel good.

Though god damn I am going to feel this in the morning. I mean, my limbs feel like jelly and I feel like I'm going to vomit, so I did a good job. But damn...tomorrow's soreness will be rough.

I have had cake, and wine, and a giggly baby, and I have a story in the 2000ad fanzine Dogbreath. Shazam! Also, character designs here.

Didn't punch anybody though, is that good or bad?

I've succeeded in turning some of my heroes in to teachers and my teachers sometimes email me back. Cool. }:>

There was friggin tasty sushi and now a bangpow good shochu. I was hoping to dance and drink tonight but instead I'm sipping this strong-flavored but not strong-alky liquor and listening to NIN. There are worse things in life, I suppose.

Oh and Ryan, good on the story and other wonderful things. I can only assume there was no punching because no one needed punching. therefore, good!

Haven't been here for a while, but it seems right to say this here:

    I'm not being made redundant!!!

A month ago we were told there was a chance about 25% of our workforce would be let go, with voluntary redundancy offered and compulsory redundancy to follow if not enough took it. Those selected for compulsory would be picked via some kind of "competence matrix" (lesson: the word "matrix" rarely means anything good in work situations). Cue a month of barely suppressed panic.

But it's okay! There were enough voluntary redundancies taken, so it seems I'm in the clear. Squeaky fucking bum time for a whole month. The effect of it on my home life and the psychological state of me and my wife has been incalculable. Things are changing, drastically, as a result. But we have a reprieve. Thank the maker. ::unclenches sphincter::

Had the good fortune to work as a soundman for these two tonight.

It's always a joy to work on material that is good to begin with.

i *almost* signed a lease tonight, and then decided not to. this is a good thing because the guy creeps me out. i maybe need to lower my standards when it comes to landlords and their suspect-ness, but history says that smarmy = bad experience while genuinely nice people = good experience.
however, bad thing, 'cause now i have to stay at my friends's's's places for an indefinitely longer time. now looking to sign for august 1st. sigh.

also a good/bad thing: got a job offer yesterday, for a position that maybe kinda sucks but will be steady income until i can find something better. by "something better" i mean "something that isn't in the service industry and also pays more than minimum wage and also isn't too hellishly corporate." i had to sign forms today. privacy forms, code of conduct forms, company credit card forms? (didn't actually sign that one. put it in my purse for later perusal.) job doesn't officially start until august, which is good because i can spend another week on the couch refreshing craigslist. but, goddamn. i would like my summer of fun to start three weeks ago.
also today is the 20th of july, which sucks, so i'm going to go drink on the roof and watch QI on my friend's ipad. so there.

i'm not actually sure there's anything good about today.

So here I am, at the offices of the Canadian embassy in Tallinn. This is acting as our accomodations for tonight while we're playing odd music for odd people. I have biddly-biddly-beer and free wifi, and a balcony on the wall of the Old Town overlooking the city. There is a shower! Luxury! Tomorrow it's Latvia, and a wholly different experience, if experience is anything to go by.

My cohorts went off for a drink or two after the show, I was too tired and broke to join them in their revelry, so a quiet apartment and Plants vs. Zombies it is.

(I also have a social engagement that makes me go *squeee/eeeep*.)

This afternoon I wrapped up planning for my Summer Visit With Family Back East next month. Made a reservation with the dog kennel, arranged for the newspaper deliver to be stopped for the week, booked a flight (at an incredible price) and requested the time off from work.

Usually it takes me weeks of pain and procrastination to get this stuff done.

Of course, the mild anxiety disorder that makes this planning difficult has me expecting some relative or another to announce that they'll be away that week, or that my boss will assign me some project the week before. Or the kennel operator will die.
