    I'm sure this will get me flogged severely, but as a Canadian, 2000AD wasn't part of my formative comics experience at all. 'Twas all Alpha Flight and Captain Canuck for for me, I'm afraid. So now after 20 years of mad passionate comics love, (and the advent of the iPad) I'm finally giving this thing a shot. Thing is, there's obviously a lot of stuff out there. I've had some really great experiences so far (Abnett's The Kingdom, Button Man, and Leviathan being probably the best ones so far), but I'm hoping that some of you fine folks can help point me in the direction of other stories that I need to track down, both in the past, and contemporary. Any help?

    Ive been addicted to Judge Dredd since they started publishing them stateside, and one of the editors I talked to at SDCC got me to pick up Halo Jones by Alan Moore.

    Probably not much help since I just started getting into them like you but who knows.

    You gotta read Nemesis the Warlock. Kevin O'Neill discovering his genius, and Pat Mills feeding it and watching it grow.

    D.R. and Quinch. The better Slaine stuff (I'd go for The Horned God).

    Plus, er... The Simping Detective.

    Plus, Ace Trucking Co (space haulage comedy) and Meltdown Man (old-fashioned cliffhanger serial about a world full of animal-people), both drawn by the magnificent Massimo Belardinelli, are now available in reprint editions.

    If you've read Halo Jones, I think you'd enjoy Skizz, also by Alan Moore. I'd like to add a big 'fuck yeah' for DR and Quinch, too. If you're in the mood for some slightly lovecraftian splatter horror, then Stone Island is definately worth a look. If you're a fan of big, silly creature features then Ant Wars and Shako are the way to go. Enjoy the thrill power, sir!

    Stickleback by Ian Edginton/D'Israeli, and Lenny Zero by Andy Diggle/Jock are both good reads with great art

    I'd reccomend Cabalistics Inc but they haven't published the final part of it anywhere.

    Shakara and Sinister Dexter for action.

    I'm with the people pointing you towards "The Ballad of Halo Jones" and "D.R. and Quinch".
    I preferred Halo Jones but, sadly, it was supposed to be longer.

    The Bolland-era Judge Dredd, as smmed up by Warren's suggested Greatest Panel In Comics.

    My current favourite is Nikolai Dante, which generally keeps a light tone despite being a superhuman future exaggeration of the Russian Civil War.

    Just read the first Nikolai Dante trade. Nice stuff. Good solid adventure stories.

    i'm going to second Caballistics Inc it's very good (note to 2000AD - please publish the rest of it)
    The Simping Detective that was so modestly pimped above is good too but would probably make more sense if you have some familiarity with the Dredd universe.
    Dredd is always worth a look especially as they've been doing those anthologies - the Chopper and the Dark Judges stories are personal faves.
    and I'm really surprised that no-one's pointed you in the direction of Strontium Dog. the first anthology is, to my mind, pretty much perfect.

    Sláine the Horned God is a great book with stunning art that will introduce you to one of the great long-running 2000AD characters. The writing can be stilted, but it's still a story about a barbarian who spasms into a superhuman freak and hacks everything in sight to death with a massive axe. And he's one of the less interesting characters.

    Dash it all sir, you're quite right. I'd highly recommend the Red Tide trade. Queer supernatural adventure of a very high calibre.
