A completely unexpected find (sometimes following random links in youtube comments is worth it). The album is annoyingly rubbish, but this song is fantastic.
I demand that you listen to this until at least 2:45 or so in, when something really special happens.
This is absolutely lovely. Reminds me very much of The Coral in parts.
And to finish, some Stan Rogers. Not only is this a beautiful piece of music, it reminds me of my very first internet friendship. We lost contact years ago, but every time I listen to this I remember the complete stranger from halfway across the world who was a better friend to me than anyone I knew in real life. She never talked down to me, despite the fact that I would only have been about 14 (and unbelievably stupid in many, many ways) at the time, and she showed me that everyone in the world wasn't like the people in my high-school. A toast to friends, wherever we find them, and to Canada (home to some truly lovely people).
@icelandbob I cannot wait for the new Solstafir. They always seem to have just the perfect balance of elements. Definitely pass on my compliments if the opportunity arises!
A summery of however-the-hell-long: Wugazi- 13 Chambers (we all know about this by now, right?) Psychostick- Sandwich (a comedy-metal band; they actually have a song called "This is Not a Song, It's a Sandwich" and it is rad.) Maroon 5- Songs About Jane (found at used bookstore. Yeah, yeah, I know... w/ the exception of their horrible 2nd and 3rd singles from this, it's a pretty nice jazzy pop album. And "Harder to Breathe" might be one of my favorite songs ever.) Rasputina- Sister Kinderhook (also found at used bookstore. Haven't listened to all of it yet, but liking it. My only exposure to them has been Thanks For the Ether, and the two albums are quite different.)
And I've kinda joined a rag-tag group of Mark Lamarr fangirls on Tumblr, and one of the girls has started uploading mp3s of his God's Jukebox radio show (something like 45 of them!) Got one playing now, he's playing "Passing Me By" by the Pharcyde, and I couldn't be happier.
