To all the talents behind Freakangels,

I happened to visit based on a suggestion from some other Web-Comic many, many moons ago, and you have been my inspiration to getting my homework done. I've been doing my Master's degree online and Fridays have been my cut-off for getting things turned in. So I says to myself, "Can't read Freakangels until the homework is done." I'm done with the Master's as of this summer and you're done too.

I've enjoyed everything about this story - right down to the shading of the buildings. May all your ventures be successful, and may the world place you on the pantheon with the other Masters of "comic" artistry.

Thank you for making this accessible to everyone like you have and for giving so much of yourselves in the process. I will miss this.

Paul, the rugs! The RUGS in this last section. Yes, I am complimenting you on the little patterned area rugs, because I am that kind of person. Half a dozen little rugs awkwardly overlapping one another to cover as best the places where your feet go most often. It's a nice touch, one that can say "scavenged" or "trying to make it nice" all at the same time. My great-grandfather's house had cypress floors, and there was a time when nobody would dream of covering up a cypress floor with wall-to-wall carpet. Those floors weather storms like nothing else. So, lots of little rugs.

The concluding image has its own soundtrack in my head. That's you, Warren, so thank you.

I haven't posted much but I've been here for nearly all the journey.

Yes, I love the story. Yes, I love the art.

But I've read great comics before and this was very different. This was a comic that felt like it came with a direct line to the creators and a community that they'd assembled and moderated that was simultaneously part of and not-part-of what was going on on the page. That was a first for me, and at 45 I don't get that many firsts these days.

It's 9:30 Friday morning at work and I have a big honkin' presentation staring me in the face at 10:00 making it impossible for me to write everything I would normally want to for this final episode. While these words are utterly insufficient to express my gratitude - thank you Warren, Paul, Arana and everyone else for giving us your blood, sweat and tears that went into this - FOR FREE! I'll try to support the cause by looping back around and buying some FreakAngels merchandise to "help the cause" a little bit, so to speak.

Also - are the FreakAngels "OK"? You know what I mean, not dead or anything? I've grown to care a lot about those characters over the last three years or so and I just have this aching need to know everythings OK with them, you know? That they're someplace "good". And the weird thing is that this could go to Episode 288 or 300 eve now with FREAKANGELS: WHAT HAPPENED NEXT or somesuch. I will say I'm we were left with unanswered questions like what caused the Freakangels to come to be. I was half-afraid that the time-jump would involve them going back to the moment of their conception and "creating themselves" or something. I like it so much better this way, but I will surely miss this work.

Since crying is an impossible activity in Whitechapel, the reasonable explanation for my currently wet face is that a raincloud suddenly appeared overhead and released its contents.

Thanks to Warren, Paul, Ariana, and Avatar and anybody else I've missed for creating a familiar, dangerous, funny, and sexy world that I enjoyed visiting every Friday. Warren has ongoing projects. But I hope Paul has a new gig as I want to see where his art takes him next.

I'm kind of surprised Alice didn't trot out the KK copter or the steam-powered gatling gun to support her story. For that matter, would Alice be nutty enough to try flying the KK copter?

I wonder if newbies who come to Whitechapel thanks to Si Spurrier's new webcomic will need an FAQ explaining why the site's called Whitechapel and who these Warren Ellis and Paul Duffield people are?

For probably the last time, I got to work, turned my monitor sideways, put on Kemper Norton's "To Iron John" and relished every panel of the last Freakangels episode.

Unlike most people, I really like it when things have an end, and it stays ended. That way the reasons I love them will always remain, and they won't be dragged out and re-hashed and eventually turned into crap like many things I love have been over the years *coughstarwarscough*. I like this end, it's the only logical place this tale could have wound up. It's actually the ending I worked out for myself after finishing volume 3, and the one that I had hoped for. Endless thanks to Warren, Paul, Ariana, Alana, Kate, and anyone else that helped this event happen. I loved having something to look forward to and turn my work monitor sideways to enjoy! Also, just gotta add: damn, those rugs! Totally made the whole scene for me, they did.

That being said, I'm excited as fuck for Gun Machine, and also whatever Si decides to do here as well.

I've always wished that Warren Ellis would write more novels so he could join the ranks of favourites in my head such as Arthur C. Clarke, Jules Verne, and Ray Bradbury. There is no place in the world I would rather be than in my head with a good sci-fi read, and I look forward to wandering around in the world of Ellis for many years to come. Continue kicking ass, my friends.

Well then... that's it...

When I started reading this series I expected answers. But as the series evolved the expected answers were replaced by questions, and the longer I read the more questions arose. And gently I started to realize that I would not get answers here on all questions.
From that moment on I began to put something at work which is one of man's greatest posessions: my brain. (not that my brain is so good for you, but it is sufficient enough for me ;-) ) And I started to think about what answers might be given to some of the questions. And I ended up by thinking that many of those questions have a whole bunch of possible answers. And somehow I think that it is just a good thing that Ellis does not limit us to what he thinks is the one answer by giving us that one, ruling out all other alternatives. So the answers may be different for anybody and everybody and still be true.
So I think he cleverly avoided that easy trap which is so "fooking obvious"...

Anyway, just like all others I would like to express my gratitude to Ellis for a great story, Paul for the excellent artwork, Ariana for this forum and whatever you have done more to make this possible and all those other people who have helped by inking and coloring and maintaining the site and doing the paperwork and whatever is needed for a realisation of this level and magnitude. You all did a wonderful job here which deserves it's place in comic-book history.

And now.... what will I do next friday to fill up the void? Is there some rehab-clinic for kicking off a post-FA-trauma? For I will definitely need it...

Wow, i can't believe it's over....

all i can say is Cheers Warren, Paul, Ariana and all the guys at Avatar for making this happen. It was a great piece of long form storytelling and was impeccably drawn by Paul. It has opened my eyes to the reality of webcomics and they're here to stay.

Someone needs to make a proper 70s recreation of this in the style of the children film foundation. But with sex and swearwords and stuff

The FUTURE. That's where they are. And the future is clean, and it has power, and it's recovered from everything. They did fix it. And even after the world ends, and after what happens next, the world still goes on.

Really, really incredible stuff. I loved everything so much, and as a poor art student, I especially appreciated it being free. I wish I could say that I would go out and buy all the books now, but I have to pay rent, so, someday. Warren's work has always been my favorite on it's last page or two. As sad as I am to see it end, an ending like this is what I was waiting for. It's beautiful.

Had fun reading and anticipating the next episode, speculating occasionally in the forums (and getting warren ellis's reply - *fangirl scream*); and being part of the freakangels community by lurking around the forums and getting freakangels merchandise. ^_^

Freakangels is more than a comic to me. It is a the core around which a community has grown around (, because reading the weekly forum comments are part of the freakangels experience!), the gadfly for provoking deep thoughts, and a marker of days gone by.

Its all that I'll miss now that Freakangels have ended. >_<

Standing ovation for the ending. I LOVED IT, it was perfect! After all, one of your mottos is: "The future is inherently a good thing." The story of Freakangels is your magnum opus about that theme.

I congratulate you, Mr. Paul Duffield, his two Lovely, Master colorist, and Webmistress Ariana for delivering this absolute gem to us. I'm honored I could be apart of this story since the beginning, and I WILL buy that last Freakangels 2000 print Hardcover to complete my set. This was the remake Battlestar Galactica of webcomics.

Favorite bit? Alice. Least favorite bit? It's over.

Oh well, at least now, I can lend it out to people and it's all complete.

Oh and Warren - nice job stealing the end of Watchmen. With the notebooks and all. There COULD be a sequel but why bother?

This was a wonderfully ambitious and enjoyable story. I dedicated today to re-reading all 144 episodes, and without the weekly intervals to dissipate the mood, I was deeply immersed. The beautifully rendered images of a flooded, decaying London -- and the characters who lived in it -- are permanently seared in my mind. I'm very happy about that.

Freakangels has been my regular fix for the last years and now it ends a couple of months away from my graduation. Thanks to Warren, Paul and the rest of the crew for this experience. It started off with the excitement of having the chance to read a new Warren Ellis comic. My glee grew as I learnt it was free every week! Then the interesting experience at reading a weekly web comic which I hadn't before and the almost agony at having to wait each week or longer if there was a skip week. The forum also led to some interesting discussions and artwork.

I also had a fangirl moment when Mr Ellis himself wrote to me on the forum! I got to meet a few other fans at the MCM (London Expo) where I worked hard on creating a KK cosplay and was over the moon when Paul told me that I was the first person he'd ever seen cosplaying one of his characters. I only hope I could do her some justice. I enjoyed seeing the other Freakangels cosplayers too. Then I got to meet Warren, ask him to sign the first FA volume, and pose for a photo.

Now it is over. No longer will I look forward to 12pm on a Friday in my office in Aldgate, just a few roads from Whitechapel where it all began.

Thanks to all invovled for a beautifully told story about adolesence and growing up. The freakangles are now starting a new story where they are in control of their futures, and they did it by deciding to control themselves, not others. This is the essence of maturity:you can only control yourself. Perhaps they will lead by example with Conner's record of the struggle left behind. At any rate Warren, Paul, et al... if your future projects are half as good as this series you'll be doing well.

To the creators, one HUGE thank you for making Friday mornings something to look forward to. Me and my room mate would stare vacantly at the wall as we would drink tea and get ready for work until one of us would remember and shout that it was 'FRIDAYFREAKANGELSDAY!' and run to our computers. This was one equally huge experiment, that required the same amount of effort, and I hope that you all think it was a huge success. Because, for what my wee little internet opinion is worth, you made thousands and thousands of people happy, sad, anxious, outraged, and flabbergasted every Friday for years. And you did it with six pages of gorgeous art and wonderful plot. Not a television show episode, or the new book in a series - just six pages. That is pretty darn amazing in itself!

To the people hanging around Whitechapel, I have never met so many wonderful and interesting people in one place on the internet before. Half of the fun of reading each episode was running over to the board and having a fit with everyone else at the latest plot development. It was more like a community than a forum!

I am sad Freakangels is over, but I hope we all get to do this again!

Freakangels has been my escape since it was launched.
Secondlife had a few builds that I stumbled upon in the wasteland and it sort of sealed it as my favorite fantasy world/comic book RP.
I'm going to have to log in tonight out of nostalgia now that I've read through to the end.

Absolutely loved the ending.
I can't even put into words how appreciative I am for all the hard work you people have put into making this happen.
I hope the merchandise sticks around for a little while? Summer months are rough in Az, but they don't last forever.

Ariana, thank you for hosting Whitechapel and making sure things run properly around here.
Also Warren, Paul and those at Avatar, congrats on coming full circle with an amazing comic and thank you for being such a big part of my life.

Gee, thanks so much Warren and gang for telling us there's this big juicy diary chronicling all them years of history of these characters, who you've managed to make us love and care about, that we'll never get to read. e_e

Okay, the comic has been great, I don't want to complain, but you really had to go and explicitly say how there is a grand and alluring story that you're not telling us? That stings a bit, even after getting used to Warren's particularly frustrating style of hard and fast storytelling. Kind of like watching Fight Club, with the entire flashback cut out. Yes I am complaining that I'm not getting more of a good thing that is free. Probably just separation anxiety. Pay no attention to the old crankypants. You all have done a fantastic thing here. It's been lovely to read it. Thank you.

I've not got a printer and I much prefer reading comics on paper than on a electronic delivery device so I will wait till it comes out in trade..maybe!?

I've always been like that about everything i reckon i like e.g I rarely go to the cinema when some new film comes out. I hate the hype etc.Saying that,though, Freakangels is a totally different entity. God,hypothetically speaking, Imagine if Horrible Hollywood got their grubby mits on it and there was adds everwhere and i went to the cinema to see it in 7D...and they fucked it over. I would probably feel compelled to batter any idiot who left the cinema saying "That was ok!". Please excuse my grammer...me stupido! Respect.
