For the past year, after I discovered and caught up with it, Freakangels has been my unmissable Friday reading moment during lunch break. Thank you for the writing and for the art. It has been an awesome, wild, deeply entertaining and engaging ride.
Paul, the rugs! The RUGS in this last section. Yes, I am complimenting you on the little patterned area rugs, because I am that kind of person. Half a dozen little rugs awkwardly overlapping one another to cover as best the places where your feet go most often. It's a nice touch, one that can say "scavenged" or "trying to make it nice" all at the same time. My great-grandfather's house had cypress floors, and there was a time when nobody would dream of covering up a cypress floor with wall-to-wall carpet. Those floors weather storms like nothing else. So, lots of little rugs.
The concluding image has its own soundtrack in my head. That's you, Warren, so thank you.
Blessings and thanks! Can't tell you how much I have treasured Freak Angels since I found it, and savored all the art and the wonderful story!!!!!! Truly beautiful in all ways, and so much more than a "comic", more even than a graphic novel-it's been a world we've witnessed here.:) Any of those who wish to check out a new strip I've stumbled on, just getting going: http://derelictcomic.com/?strip_id=0 Peace out.
Fridays are going to have a huge Freakangels shaped hole now. I must admit I got to the end of the last page and cried a little, not at the story, but it being the end of an era. Cheers Warren and Paul.
I took the day off to stay in and read this last episode. Thanks go to Mr. Ellis and Mr. Duffield for not disappointing. Now, I have to find a sunny field to get very drunk in.
I was excited from the very start, when I saw art of some steampunky-looking woman with purple hair. I knew of Warren from Transmet and other things, so had high expectations. And, while the story and characters surpassed even those expectations, I'm truly grateful to FreakAngels for introducing me to Paul's art. It has been an absolute pleasure to disappear into these pages, and I've fallen crazy in love with the palette of FreakAngels. Again, thanks.
Page 5 did me in. Great job Warren, Paul, Ariana, and all of Avatar. Thanks folks. 3 years of waking up Friday morning, and anticipating something wonderful, now I have to go back to my normal life.
Adding my voice the the chorus of thank you one and alls. It was a fun ride from start to end and I'm sad to see it go, but glad it went out the way it did. I'm told I'm not stupposed to start drinking at 9am, while I'm on the clock, so I'll hold off the toast to Warren, Paul, Kate, Ariana and all the fine folks at Avatar later. Cheers!
I haven't posted much but I've been here for nearly all the journey.
Yes, I love the story. Yes, I love the art.
But I've read great comics before and this was very different. This was a comic that felt like it came with a direct line to the creators and a community that they'd assembled and moderated that was simultaneously part of and not-part-of what was going on on the page. That was a first for me, and at 45 I don't get that many firsts these days.
