    Spoke to my brother who lives down the Road in Brixton. He says that this morning, most of the Windows round by the tube station were put in and that there's nothing left of the footlocker and not much left of the JD sports (seems they targeted the sports gear). the area was cordoned off. He did try to get me a pair of trainers, but they were only in size 8.

    His girlfriend decided to work at home today. Luckily there are no large shops near where they live so they think they'll be ok.

    God i hope Whitechapel doesn't get hit. If they burn down the Ten Bells, where are we gong to meet up?

    It would be nice to see that, but the minute they set foot into Belgravia/Kensington/Chelsea, then they will get crushed like insects.

    Just seen a tweet from my friend Zöe Howe saying that people get stuck in Camden (where there are signs of it kicking off), then there is a lock in at the Roundhouse....

    But of course that could be bull...

    Edit - No it's confirmed (by the guardian). Upper Camden and Chalk Farm is kicking off.

    Any fucking excuse.

    I've heard the Electric Ballroom has been fucked up though. If it goes further in Camden, I suspect what'll happen is that the Asian owned shops on the high street will be attacked, but the market and pubs and tattooists will be extremely well defended.

    friend of mine in ealing has had to evacuate her flat, the shop underneath has been looted and set on fire...

    and yeah, they're not protesting anything, they're just rioting/looting. the first hour or so of the peacful demonstration on saturday meant something. but that was hijacked by idiots and it's spiraled from there.

    @andre - the protest vs. riot thing is a bit troubling, yes. There's some sort of consensus that the whole thing was sparked by a police shooting but if it was ever closely related to that, the overwhelming anarchy and looting seem to put it out of the realm of political activism.

    I guess the commentators' distrust of authority leads them to side with anyone who is also anti-authority, even if their signal defiance is to rob X-Box accessories and post about it on Facebook. Dickheads.

    @256-it's not only that but there's also a rumor (?) that a 16 year old girl was beaten up by the police that sparked the riot on the first day of protests against the police action. After that it's pure vandalism.

    Without wanting to do a typically me bleeding-heart-liberal switcharound to the point that nobody is to blame for anything... One does not get to the point that people value looted trainers and the sound of breaking glass more highly than a civil society without that society being somewhat fucked up. Or perhaps just not perfect. I don't know.

    Burning down pubs is just absolutely beyond the pale, though.

    Have been following this almost exclusively thru Twitter/web, which is really good for being up-to-the-minute, but less so for The Whole Story.
