London Zoo: Twin Cities Meetup/Info on best of Twin Cities

    I'm going to be in the Twin cities for the weekend after Labor day (September 9-11) so I figure a WC meetup would be grand for anyone in the area. Friday or Saturday would be best as I'd like to visit some family stuff in the area on Sunday. Anyone up to hang out?

    And since I'm going to be in the Twin Cities, I plan to make the most of it and visit art museums/go shopping/etc. So, where is the best place to get art supplies? Where is the best place to get music gear (I'm thinking of getting a uke pickup maybe, and I want to get some heavy gauge steel strings for a friend). What are your favorite art museums? My mom and I are thinking of going to the Sculpture Garden, Como park/zoo, Swedish Institute and some other places I'm blanking on in the moment, but for the most part they tend to be free or cheap. We were thinking about the Walter Museum. Anything worth knowing about any of those?

    Depending on whether or not we end up going on a camping trip that weekend I will be in Minneapolis that weekend, would be totally down for a meetup.

    As for art supplies, my girlfriend usually goes to Utrecht which is on the corner of 16th and Hennepin.

    The uke pickup you could most likely find either at the Podium (425 SE 14th Ave) or my personal favorite, The Homestead Pickin' Parlour (6625 Penn Ave South) which is actually in Richfield but just barely.

    Fellow TC-ers. Anybody got an idea re: location?

    Thanks! I've already checked out the websites with the stores you mentioned to get an idea of what they'd be like, and I'm trying my hardest not to start a wishlist (I also had no idea that ukes could be so expensive).

    I've always had a soft spot for the Science Museum. Other than that, I never actually went sight-seeing in the Cities. Always went to guitar stores, Cheapo Disc, and the zoos. And I didn't really start getting into art until after we'd left the region.

    Unfortunately you'll be a week late for the State Fair (which is always amazing).

    Um... I guess that's actually not much of a help though. :-( Listen to Bryce. He's actually there and stuff.

    For art supplies I like Penco on Washington Ave,
    Its several blocks down from BigBrain comics, BigBrain only sells trades. I really like the store. Another good store is Dreamhaven, all scifi and comics. Robot Love (toys and art objects) in uptown off of Lyndale is fun. Smitten Kitten is fun too but don't bring your mom to that one (different kind of toys)

    For museums I like Minnesota Institute of Art better than the Walker, unless the Walker has a special exhibit. The gift shops at both are really cool.

    Food: Bryant lake Bowl in uptown for breakfast or brunch. Sushi Tango in uptown for traditional sushi and hipster watching.

    Oooooh. Thanks for the info! I have to admit that Sushi would be most appealing simply because it's not available here. What about a meetup? Who all might be interested?
