Hm. Are they suddenly making Hindi movies in Pakistan?

India's biggest film economy is Bollywood: the Hindi films, including this one.

As we can see here there is a separate film industry for each language.

In money and influence, Tamil is second (which is to say Kollywood) and then second in number of films is Telugu (which is to say Tollywood) -- in other words India has more native Telugu speakers but there's less money to be had in making movies for them. I am not sure if this had to do with the city of Hyderabad (Telugu region) lagging behind Chennai (Tamil region) economically until recently, or the fact that Chennai just had a lot more talent and so more Tamil films were exported to Bollywood, leading to more prestige and revenue. Ask an expert...

There are a lot of Punjabi speakers out there, too! The Punjabi language set is the twelfth most spoken in the world, with 110 million speakers. But most are in Pakistan. The Indian Punjabi film industry makes some movies but not this one.

As for what this film is ripping off... I'm thinking the makers might have actually been more directly influenced by Gantz:

Funny suits, the scanning-bodies motif; obviously a very different tone though
