60-year-old Syrian political cartoonist Ali Ferzat is dragged from his car and beaten in the hours just before dawn by pro-regime gunmen. They break his hands as a warning for him to stop drawing.

I thought I'd highlight the outpourings of support from cartoonists around the world below, however. They're incredibly touching.

I'd encourage you all to follow suit if you are thus inclined. This whole thing could take up its own thread, if it was given the opportunity.

TSA Agent Threatens Woman With Defamation, and Demands $500k For Calling Intrusive Search "Rape"

So if you get assaulted by the TSA ans say something, you get sued. Just awful.

    @ dorkmuffin-ref Ali Ferzat.

Fucking thug cunts.Things like this make my blood boil.It just makes me sick to my soul. Good work on bringing this forward. I too think this would make an excellent thread of it's own.. I reckon if he could be aware of it it would help support him going through the shit he must be experiencing right now. Bad World...

    Shoplifters of the World Unite

Slavoj Žižek on the meaning of the riots

"Opposition to the system can no longer articulate itself in the form of a realistic alternative, or even as a utopian project, but can only take the shape of a meaningless outburst. What is the point of our celebrated freedom of choice when the only choice is between playing by the rules and (self-)destructive violence"

This would have been a great idea about ten years ago.

@Vornaskotti - That's a really cool idea. I also like the way that the article's photo of the Black Arrow rocket looks like a weaponized futur-lipstick.

@Alan - honestly, would it ever have been a good idea?

Where Does All The Gold Come From?

Ultra high precision analyses of some of the oldest rock samples on Earth by researchers at the University of Bristol provides clear evidence that the planet's accessible reserves of precious metals are the result of a bombardment of meteorites more than 200 million years after the Earth was formed.

Police agree to pay for a woman's cavity search after it reveals nothing.

Not quite as bad as rape victims being charged for their own rape kits, but close.

Very, very dry in Brasília, my city (relative humidity under 15%)... There's over 40 distinct fire outbreaks in the woods around here, the smoke is even causing problems in the airport... This is a pic I took yesterday:

Self Absorbed Twat Lacoste Marketers Hit A New All Time Low (allegedly).

The kind of people who would even have this as a consideration make me utterly fucking sick to the pit of my stomach.

Na, I read Abercrombie and Fitch's bullshit as being a PR stunt. Dumb, with an exceptional level of delusion about their own brand, but not quite at the breathtakingly stupid level of what Lacoste have apparently done. If you don't want your brand being brought into 'disrepute' when it's worn by a mass killer, don't plaster your stupid fucking logo all over the place, it's really that simple. I'm sure the Norwegian police have kind of got more pressing issues than worrying that a bunch of vapid marketing fucks have got butthurt because targeting the right wing murderer dollar was on next year's plan...

As if we needed more proof that the current hacking trend is juvenile and not productive, Script Kiddies hacks into the NBC twitter and reports on an attack at Ground Zero.

    I'm so very beyond disgusted.
