I've just discovered this. The guy in the video (who is also the animator) sat next to me in Maths at school. He used to make little animations on his Amiga. And apparently still does. :)
Kid Koala's new album 'Space Cadet' is out soon - it is a graphic novel, done on etchboard and written over the last 8 years, with a soundtrack for each scene. To launch it, he did a show in Montreal recreating characters and objects from the book, in a 'pop-up planetarium.' This guy is one of the only turntablists who makes art instead of wanking, in my opinion. I'd say the music for the new album is up there with his best stuff. Here's a video of the launch show, with tracks from 'Space Cadet.'
At the moment the fastest man-made object has been the Helios 2 probe, which reached a velocity of 252 800 km/h, at which speed it would take 18 110 years to reach Proxima Centauri.
Also, habitats and colonies as a fix for overpopulation, eh?
(It's twice as infuriating because I actually WANT space flight right this damn minute, but this isn't helping.)
@taphead: Yeah, he's babbling factoids. Going from waterbears maybe surviving on Europa in cyst for to the place being habitable is way dork. And you're not going to be able to economically grow food for the hungry in O'Neil colonies. This is the kind of advocate that you'd rather just go away and not make your cause look nutty.
