Paprika, that video is awesome. And I mean that in that I am awed.

A promotional movie from 1954, trying to get immigrants to move to Perth, Western Australia...

    Postcard From Perth

Probably more of interest to we inhabitants of the city in question, but worth a look for the whole bizzaro style and misplaced optimism of it.

(Oh, and try and spot a non-Anglo-Saxon!)

Kinda surprised this hasn't been posted before.

@William George - Fairly sure I posted that on the previous page...

This isn't new news. In fact it's billions of years old. All the same... this is Elliptical Galaxy Messier 87 and that wobbly blue thing is an enormous jet of relativistic matter shot at least 5,000 light-years out into space from the supermassive black hole at the centre. Knowing that we have pictures of this just floored me.

There's a new Around the Net thread!

Cool stuff like this should be there.

(Actually, that jet is a weapon system. The Sarkakkian Meld finally got serious about defeating the Hisss'7le Swarm.)

I'm pretty ignorant on astrophysics, but how is it possible to escape a black hole, let alone be expelled by one?
