My paperback edition of SWEETS ships to comic shops nationwide this Wednesday (Sep 14). This is officially my first solo creator-owned comic, so I'm very excited and I do hope everyone gives it a look.

If you'd like to read the first chapter, it's free on ComiXology.

    Thanks peeps!
    Kody

Damn, that is stunning, Kody. Read the first chapter and loved it.
    Also, the Meters!
Also, was that the cemetery that was in Easy Rider?

Kody, I just checked out the first issue too, and that is some lovely, lovely work. Nicely done.

(Incidentally, I'm a HUGE fan of Punks, too.)

    Love your logo. Great job!

Thanks for the kind words. The single issue comics did well, I'm excited to see how it does in bookstores. After all these years doing comics, the whole process is still fascinating.

Awesome work. Thank you for the informative interview you gave to newsrama [link] a few months back. Really helped me get through a few storytelling problems I was having with my own project. (in particular the index cards on wall helped me to see the whole narrative) Best of luck with the paperback sales.

sebfowler, I believe Easy Rider was shot in St Louis #1 cemetery, I used Metairie Cemetery in Sweets. Very similar visually, though.

Awesome looking comic. I'll have to pick up a copy tomorrow.

Btw, as someone who is also shortly releasing his first creator owned comics, can you give me any pointers on spreading the word, attracting attention and generally getting people interested? I've got a thread on here about one of the comics, but no one seems interested enough in it, and my support on IndieGoGo has kinda dried up. The comic's called The Pride, btw

mojojoseph, wishing you the best with The Pride. I don't think there's any real pointers I could give that you don't already know about. Hit the forums, media, conventions, podcasts, etc. and do it in a classy, professional way.

I'm a firm believer that you win readers one at a time. So it's important to try and establish an entry point for those new readers to discover the project. Readers mostly respond to things that are in-line with their current interests, so that's where you make the connection. For my purposes, I made sure "crime" was in my title so crime fans would consider it. I did my best to show as much artwork as I could without spoilers, so people that dig the kind of art I do will see it and perhaps give it a try. My cover looks like my interiors, so they know what to expect from the series. Those are the kinds of things that work for me.

Picked up the trade on Wednesday Kody.

Been waiting for this to come out since issue one, so it's nice to see it's not only finished, but finished well. Sir, fantastic comic book.

Picked up the issues when they were coming out. Loved it.

It appears that the main 3 shops I go to didn't get this in.
I've now asked one to order it so I should get it in a couple of weeks.

HUGE thanks to everyone that picked up the book, can't afford to do this stuff without readers willing to give it a chance. So I owe you all a great big bear hug.

Kody -- I'll try to remember to let you know what I think of it once I finally get my hands on it. I was surprised that none of my normal stores got a copy of it in. (Or maybe they did but sold before I got there...)
