Here's a shot of me playing the videogame artwork I've been working on. We did the first public walk through at Nuit Blanche this weekend and it was really successful. I also added some of the most recent video clips from the game but playing it on the big screen was way mre fun! Special thanks to my creative collaborator Michael Richards for the awesome programming!

Cthulhu vs. Giant Robots!
A simple image, made from graphite powder and charcoal, then with some digital chicanery. Done for a contest at my school; 24 hours to create illustrations following a theme. This year was 'Science Fiction'. I did this one in about 6-8 hours or so.

Here's a cover I did for the sci-fi issue of a queer feminist sex magazine called ""Salacious". Sadly the SF theme has been bumped to #4 due to lack of submissions - if you have some comics/art/text work looking for a venue, drop 'em a line.

(Prints of that are on DA after Salacious' editor told me that tons of people wanted one.)

Other than that I've mostly been continuing to work on my multiple-narrative comic about a robot lady and her parallel selves. Which has currently put said robot lady's thread into full-page mode because it's time for ACTION!!!.

Oh, and I also did a Starwatcher with her. Unlike Boba Fett, her head is designed to be cleanly removable. *snicker*

Finally finished my second strip. I can't believe how long it takes do one of these. Unfortunately, too many of my lines are thin which makes the image look blurry when I reduce the size :( Oh well, live and learn!

Some lunch sketches commissions from last week messed about with photoshop for tone and depth.

5th element would have been a vastly different film if Zorg acted like Stansfield from The Professional.

I have never read Ender's game but I tried throwing in some symbolism that I found about the story.

Heard Preacher was a great comic but have never read it. My take on Cassidy, only found images with him wearing sunglasses.

Some day I want to publish a book titled, "One thousand times President Lincoln was a jerk." #4 Abe was a jerk after escaping from New York.

During my day job I listen to a podcast called Hollywood Babble-On with Ralph Garman and Kevin Smith. Ralph does some amazing impressions, including Al Pachino, drew this last night while attempting a different color/render technique in photoshop.

An un-cleaned page of comic.

I'm trying to figure out if I should either work on ways to build tone with my lines without hatching or solid blacks, or if I should just give up and color the damned thing even though the main colors of the setting and it's citizens are grey and shit brown.

I'm also trying to teach myself hand-lettering. I've yet to reach anything resembling consistency.

Plus, I'm thinking of doing the panel borders freehand as well...

I dig people who draw things like nuts and bolts into vomit. I'd suggest trying to go with a very small palette, and use lots of big flat colors, but keep the lines loose like you have them.

I agree with Paul: limited palette, which you already suggested with the browns/greys, and a much flatter application (but I'd probably add textures). I think McCaig's approach and palette for Northlanders would would for that page.

Each poster was done in a style reflecting actual war-time propaganda posters of the time.

I did an Alan for Alphabeasts, where you draw fantastical creatures for the each letter of the alphabet.

Alans like to collect menstrual blood or other reproductive waste and transform them into human children, whom they then raise as their own. Pretty cool eh?

So I'm putting my industrial design degree to good use and building some 80's cyberpunkish costume pieces, beginning with a set of goggles. First step was concept sketching:

Most folk I showed these doodles to were big fans of the Spider Jerusalem inspired model on the upper left, and who am I to deny the will of the people? So I did a further sketch:

followed by a digital render.

Next step - adapting the design to actually suit the layout of a human face, followed by CAD mockups. After that, prototyping, sourcing the lenses, latex moulding and casting.

Am I allowed to put this in here? Since I do mostly abstract stuff and don't draw? This is a single frame I rendered out using Cinema4D's new Progressive infinite render engine, meaning you just let it render as long as you can and it keeps getting progressively better.

I really like the abstract renders RandomEntity, those are both beautiful.

I drew this for a friends sketchbook "Sideshow Freaks and Human Oddities" then took a picture and messed about in photoshop for a bit. Sketchbook was awesome had some Mike Mignola, James O'Barr, Dan Brereton sketches and many others.

I have a general technical question: I've been extremely pleased with the way the Moleskine paper and I don't recall having used another kind of paper that behave this well with ink (I work mostly with Microns). I usually use Strathmore's Bristol (300 series) for more finished drawings (or the closest thing I can find in my art material-poor town), which does work very well but, again, I feel there's a little something more with the Moleskine; do you guys know about papers that behave similarly? Thanks!

D.Miranda -- a plate finish Bristol would be what you'd look for. Smooth wouldn't be enough. Plate is only available in the 500 series Strathmore. Other brands carry a plate surface, but I haven't tried them so i wouldn't know how they'd compare to Strathmore.

If you order in bulk, Dick Blick and other online retailers give good discount.

Love the work, too. Makes me want to dig out MS and give it another shot.

The rumour is looking quite solid. I've people not willing to on the record but still talking to me about it. Much like last time, I suspect the echo chamber has already kicked in and some of the people who consider themselves deep insiders are passing on slightly garbled info.

Last time, for instance, I talked to one person who was in conversation with one of the people involved but still managed to have some of the facts wrong and I was talking to two other people I know from the film production side who ended up getting much more of the details right in the end but they didn't know their source was speculating on a significant portion of what he was telling them. At the same time, I was talking to a former editor who was certain he knew what was going on, but was completely off the mark even with the leaks already out there.

Hope that makes sense. I suspect the rumours are "true enough" and too far along for any Internet furore to stymie this time around.

@mojokingbee - i've found sticking a sheet of bristol board on the tablet can help MS 'feel' a bit more analogue. Fair wears the nibs down though...

@Neil…I actually stick a glossy comic book page on the tablet to reduce the friction and prolong the stylus nib.

I use a piece of cheap Inkjet paper on my Bamboo, feels a lot more natural to me. I like a bit of resistance when drawing, I think thats one of the reasons I prefer a dip pen over a brush.

@hey apathy I like the idea of one of your really crowded cityscapes in a real estate office, very fitting and they look great.

Just a quick note:
I don't know how well the Sketchbook Project is known, but just in case, as it might interest a few of us - basically, you order a 32-pages sketchbook (25$) that you have to complete by January 31st, 2012. The completed sketchbook are then integrated into a tour that takes place during the year (USA and Canada, also England and Australia for the sketchbooks of their respective continents). After the tour, the sketchbooks become part of the permanent collection of the Brooklyn Art Library, where it will remain available for public viewing. You can also have your sketchbook scanned, so that it's included in a virtual exhibition afterwards.
