I actually have a weirdish Soul mixtape I made last month with a download link if that makes it easier for anyone. Let me know if I should throw it up.
15th is good for me, just trying to figure out where in fuck I'm gonna buy a blank cassette! Mix is finished, but uploading it to the internet or burning a CD seems TOO EASY. So I'm off to enjoy the 'whuzzat?' expressions on the faces of store clerks born in the 90s, as I ask if they stock any 'magnetized tape cassettes'
@texture - That sounds awesome. Now I'm starting to feel nostalgic, and miss cassettes.
I feel better knowing that I'm far from the only person that hasn't finished their mix. I need to get cracking. I intend to get mine done by this time next week.
I can totally play tapes. My turntable is far, far away, though. (Oh, and if you need some cassettes - try looking inside old stereos at thrift stores. People leave cassettes in boomboxes, film in cameras, and slides in projector canisters, ALL THE TIME.)
I just bought this tape from one of my favourite producers. Came on CD too, which I immediately ripped to mp3, without listening, having already streamed on Bandcamp... Will prob never play either physical format... But the tape is a much nicer object than the disc: hand stencilled and signed by the artist. This is what its all about.... fetishizing defunct objects in a world of transubstantiated media!
It is with heavy heart to hear this news of Mr. Buckingham. On a happier note I am glad to be in receipt of your mix. I should be glad to hear that I now know that enormous lack of gourd themed media. I tip my hat to you.
Track 17 (a version of Go Your Own Way without any lyrics) got screwed up during the burning process, and my computer decided to die shortly afterwards leaving me with only the faulty copy and no way to burn another one. So I sent it as is and had Major General Alexi Vassilatarov write a cover letter explaining things. He seems to have got a bit carried away and blamed the problem on "counter-revolutionary forces" (we're all a bit worried about him...).
In any case, if anyone would like a taste of the mix themselves, here's a hastily assembled YouTube version, which includes the special Bonus track I couldn't fit on the CD (ironically the problem with track 17 would have allowed me to fit in on, but I didn't realise this and used the space for an idiotic secret track instead...). A few tracks aren't available, sorry about that.
EDIT: Links moved to the Flickr page because I forgot about that neat auto-embed feature Whitechapel has...
