Not sure what was running through my head; thought of who I'd like to see running around in a dreamtime kingdom. Great stuff so far, folks, it can only get better, right? I'm so glad to see everyone so nervous about doing this one right.
Ideas for this challenge took a while to get going, but now they're really coming! My favourites so far are from David Lee Ingersoll and Struthersneill. I hope I can get mine up soon.
I started with this: Brendan McCarthy study. Mixed media. Candy colored clown. William Burroughs strung out on bug juice. Needles in his arm. Drip reality. The defiant dreamer. The messiah of slumberland. The Princess of madness. A bag full of her drawings that she wants to show you. Mayan sun dial. Type-writer strapped to back for propulsion. Dreams, the never ending fuck cannon.
And ended up here:
It's fun to noodle on Nemo for a bit.
@neil: Holy shit. The concept is almost as good as the drawing. Almost! I would read a book like that. @Paul: You talented bastard you
@Paul -- great job and fuck you! Not seriously, but I was doing a Little Warren in Arse-Eel Land up until I saw this. Shit.
Seriously, I would kill to see your version, Richard. You've been on fire with your stuff lately. Don't let ME stop "The Pace"!
@Dorkmuffin: thanks, I did a few different things here to emulate McKay. Simpler line work, and flat colors. McKay did do some shading in his work, but for the most part he worked with flat tones, same as Hergé did. If I'm anywhere in within a hundred miles of either of those two in execution, I'm honored. Thanks. My biggest technical challenge on this one; trying to figure out if Warren still has a clean shaved head. Photo research yielded inconclusive results.
@ScottS: OF COURSE I NEED PROFESSIONAL HELP. That's why I hang around here!
@ Tim Hamilton – Great drawing @ struthersneil – Your inking is incredible @ bbrian021 – Very much in the spirit of the original! @ mothbot – That is insane! Bravo! @ Paul Sizer – I am at a loss for words at how awesome your comic is!
Here is my take… complete with rotation, to avoid those embarrassing head stands to see the complete piece!
