    Santorum's grand plan for GOP success in 2012: marry off those unwed mothers.

    His theory:
    1. Unwed mother's suckle at the government teat for financial assistance.
    2. Democrats are the party seen as being in favor of financial assistance.
    3. Therefore unwed mothers most likely vote Democrat because they don't want to get cut off from financial assistance.
    4. If they just had a man in their life, paying for things, they wouldn't need financial assistance and would thus not vote Dem.
    5. Therefore, marry off those unwed women to get them to stop voting against the GOP.
    6. Profit.

    Because, you know, there's no other reason to vote Dem. And all single-mothers are on government assistance and vote Dem.

    I think we need to get specially calibrated douchebag-detectors because mine always breaks whenever Frothy Mixture's name is mentioned.

    Venezuelan inmates release hostages at prison

    The standoff began in mid-October and has once again heightened tensions in a severely overcrowded prison system where guns and drugs are commonplace and where protesting inmates have periodically seized hostages as bargaining chips.

    President Hugo Chavez's government has recognized prison crowding as a problem, and a newly appointed prisons minister, Iris Varela, has pledged to come up with solutions. The countries' more than 30 prisons were designed to hold about 12,000 prisoners but are currently packed with about 47,000 inmates, according to official figures.

    Last year, 476 people died and 967 were injured in prison violence, according to figures compiled by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

    Computer Scientist Cracks Mysterious 'Copiale Cipher'

    Now, more than three centuries after it was devised, the 75,000-character Copiale Cipher finally has been broken.
    The mysterious cryptogram, bound in gold and green brocade paper, reveals the rituals and political leanings of an 18th-century secret society in Germany. The rituals detailed in the document indicate the society had a fascination with eye surgery and ophthalmology, though it seems members of the society were not eye doctors.

    Two Amusing Side Channel Attacks

    They were amazed by the fact that patterns appeared, but they wanted be sure that they were picking real ultrasonic sound and not electromagnetic noise of the PC (or surrounding equipement) and so they tested against the muffled (soundproofed) microphone. Indeed it was real ultrasonic noise. Ultrasonic sound was not particularly disturbed by the PC fans and background sound. So they wrote an assembly test program and were able to match ultrasonic patterns with actual CPU operations:

    1 MW E-Cat Cold Fusion Device Test Successful

    On October 28, 2011, Andrea Rossi demonstrated his 1 megawatt E-Cat system to his first customer, who had engineers/scientists on hand to test/validate its performance. Due to a glitch, it provided 470 kW of continuous power for 5.5 hours during the self-sustained mode.

    @Vornaskotti - that guy pops up now and then, but is widely considered a fraud.

    There was an article on Slashdot about this same project earlier in the year, and in the comments his entire operation is basically torn to shreds - think this is it.
