I saw that image a couple of days ago, with a much more excited tone from the one posting it. I was thinking about it as I walked home tonight. Thing is, it really makes no sense. The people that would want high heels constantly are people who really really like shoes. If someone were to get implants in their feet like this, they wouldn't be able to wear any kind of shoes ever again. I don't see this ever happening. -

For some people heels aren't about shoes but posture and the way it makes them feel in a fetishistic sense. I could see such implants working for those people. -

I don't see the utility in implants over just regular high heels so I doubt it'd catch on outside of the fetish community, if it was legit.
Except for the already mentioned fetish aspect there's nothing the implant can do better than the shoes, only worse: added stress on the feet and heels, the fact that you would have to buy custom shoes, there are places you simply couldn't go, and things you couldn't do. -

Why do people get ear spacers? Why do they have horns or spikes or metal balls implanted under their scalp to change their appearance? Why get a tattoo?
Why bisect your penis or any of the other horrible things seen on Warren's CONAN, WHAT IS BEST IN LIFE? posts?
Because they want to. *shrug* Sometimes it's not about utility. Sometimes it's about taking a look at your body, considering what you could do with it, and going for it. -

Like I said, I don't doubt that the fetish community will do what they can simply because of curiousity and desire to expand the definitions for what is aesthetically associated with the human body.
I just don't think it'll catch on outside of it. It's in the same group as the bisection of your penis or auto-amputation and other types of mods that inhibit your ability to function as a human being. So I don't think it'll catch on for people who just like the posture you get out of high heels. -
