OddBill -- That's awesome! Where's your show at? Also, as a bit of a random question: How much did the framing cost you? I have a small stack of things I need framed but the framing prices I've been getting (only tried 2 places so far) seem higher than they should be but I have nothing to compare them to. -

The six pieces I've been posting about in this thread will be for sale, and I'll have a seventh piece in the charity auction. 10% of any of the sales I make, and 100% of whatever the auctioned piece brings, will go to benefit the HeArt Project to fight the high dropout rate among Los Angeles High Schools.
Also, @Warped Savant - I have someone who does framing who gives me a good rate - these pieces cost me just under $100 each - it is usually more expensive than that. It's worth spending if you want to preserve something, cheap frames don't hold up over time. -

@Bill -- Dang. I was guessing it was down there somewhere. (On the same coast, but in a different country.) Good to know about the framing. I know that I need to get them framed somewhere good so it's going to cost a fair bit, but I just wanted to make sure that $150 - $250 per picture was a normal price. (Some of the pieces in question where done by my wife's grandfather so they're definitely ones that I want to preserve properly.) -

Yeah, that range is not unsual. As a rule of thumb, anything under $100 is a great deal, anything over $200 is getting a bit expensive. Depending on how big the pieces are, it should fall somewhere in there.

Finally got this back today. A broadside I did for letterpress, with 2 photopolymer plates and some blind embossed metal type. -

Oddbill: Congrats, man, have a great show!
Fishelle: Love the little compositions.Finding the want/desire to keep working, and the self confidence to keep working, especially when there is little to no response to what you create, is hard. Perhaps the hardest thing about being an artist for some people? What I'd like to know is, how do you do it? How do you push your will and want to keep going?
Honestly? It's probably equal parts ego and a pure "genetic level" need to do it. I've got a few friends really questioning whether they want to continue doing art because of how it's going for them right now. Stopping doing art, for me, isn't even a consideration. So I just get better at inventing ways to facilitate making art. Which isn't a bad thing, as it also forces you to re-evaluate how you're approaching things and keeping things fresh and exciting for yourself. Kind of like Madonna or David Bowie re-inventing themselves over and over again.
(Which also means at some point I will have to time travel ahead and slap a future version of myself for really screwing things up.) -
