Hmh, the world is getting a bit desperate to pick me up. After scavenging a few euros for a bus tickets so I can show up for work and get back, when I actually got to the bus stop, I ran into a middle aged ordinary looking dude who was wearing a silly hat folded out of a newspaper. He was standing there in the drizzling rain as just another expressionless commuter, not drawing attention to himself, sporting his silly newspaper hat like a boss.

Now, that earned a chuckle. :)

got a check from Warner Bros for $360 for keeping my store open while they worked on their movie. Just got finished bottling the first beer I've made with the guys. Had a really fun time doing it, went home with 5 of the 12 bottles that are mine, and spent the night passing around a celebratory cigar, and dreaming of a full-time brewery in Texas. Now all we have to do is wait, and they'll be ready to drink. One bottle broke, so we salvaged its contents into a glass and had an early taste. It was flat, and the sweetness from the bottling will go down as the sugar is converted into CO2, but... it's not bad at all. Hoppier than most pumpkin ales I've had, with a good smooth flavor all the way through.

So, so happy right now.

Got my Food Stamps for NYC!

Got two new possible corporate photo gigs!

Emailed a CPA I worked with previously to ask his advice about starting an LLC, and he wrote me back immediately!

I went to my first ever art opening and saw the picture that roommate Yao drew of me as a Fox Spirit. I did see Glukkake briefly, but left due to social awkwardness (because I am not of that art world, and get nervous) but still, hooray!

FABULOUS: After reading my collection of medical evidence and conjecture, the awesome and talented Matt Borgatti (creator of the recent OWS Bandana) suggested I get myself genetically sequenced by 23andMe. He further suggested that if I couldn't afford the rather pricey fee to start some kind of fundraiser, and how he might help by making 3D models of my brain (hopefully with the Flying Spaghetti Monster inside, like this)! Fortuntely, I happen to be obsessive about keeping a redundant degree my medical records, and had already obtained the CD of my last two brain and spine MRI scans, had converted them to ISOs, RAR'd them together and uploaded them to my server for safe keeping. Bwa ha ha! I am prepared! Life converges!

Also, I got my zipcar card in the mail today! YAY! (no, it's not soo smart for me to drive regularly, but if I do so at night, or on not-bright days, it's fine) The idea that I can possibly escape from the city on a whim is insanely appealing.

Finally finished Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet. Preordered Batman: Arkham City for cheap on Steam. Meet a nice girl, maybe go someplace. Recevied both Coilhouse 6 and "Such Great Heights" on vinyl from Kim Boekbinder.

In more recent news, tried a new technique where I close my eyes at random times during the day, and count either 10 seconds or 30 seconds, to allow my brain to digest the information that I obtain. Honest to God, worked wonders.

Now,try to get on Whitechapel more. Been absent for a time because of life.

Today I have a honest to god totally free day, which doesn't mean that I'm postponing something or taking a break, I really don't have any work I can do which is pretty fucking uncommon - and the day started with my female jumping my bones right when I woke up. Frankly today is free because I was so tired and confused yesterday that I thought it was Sunday and busted my ass getting everything done for a new week. This "stuck with three jobs, pulling 12-16 hour days and still no two coins to rub against each other" is apparently fucking with me a bit (memory feels like Swiss cheese) - but things are going to get much much better on that whole front pretty soon \o/

Also, last night my regular watering hole was again a friendly place to go to. I spend about 1-2 evenings per week there just reading a book or playing an adventure game and sipping good beers (Leffe, Franziskaner, Chimay, seasonal specialities) and I've been going there for a 2-3 years now. I scrounged up enough change for a couple of pints, but got a nice discount on the beers and a nice bowl of free beer nuts. It's the small things that make you feel welcome <3

The server is down at the office, so I have time to spend here...

The weekend was almost too good for words. I took the new ladyfriend to Kim Boekbinder Friday. I got all dressed up expecting a colorful crowd. Turns out I was the only one. Kim commented that she liked my spiky coat.

I ended up spending the night at the girlperson's. While it was clear it was not going to be one of those sorts of sleepovers, it was great. She looks beautiful waking up. We spent the morning wandering around Boston's Museam of Fine Arts before going and finishing my mug. 134 beers in just over 5 months, done!

That's me with the woman person who lets me hang about (I'm apparently getting weird about defining relationships in my old age) drinking the free celebratory mug. Mine will have my number and dead author (Alexandre Dumas). From now on, I get anything on tap in my mug for slightly more than the commoners pay for a pint.

Things are going absurdly well with the lady. The feeling seems to be entirely mutual and we are having so much fun. I'm trying to follow Rachael's advice and just go with it. I find myself reading Rumi. Yesterday, I had to stop driving to scrawl down some poetry. This is all very unlike me. I write stories where the hero dies in the end and songs about pain and death, not love poems. This is all completely terrifying.

Tonight we're going to both have our laptops and try and have a writing date. If that goes well, we'll have almost no excuse not to hang out together. At least then she'll be sick of me in no time and I'll be back on more familiar ground.

Got a job. Interviewed at noon on Friday; lady called me back at three. Actually said the words "I love your personality." To me. Ha!
Gonna spend most of my first paycheque on a pair of multi-hundred-dollar noise-cancelling headphones, with my new employee discount. Woop.
The hours are slightly more than I was really banking on, which is probably fine as long as the people are good. Harvest season is almost over, anyways, so I really have no reason to skulk around the apartment like I been doin'. But this will firmly entrench me in daylight-hours-keeping, which doesn't mesh so well with the nighthawkery of my gentleman caller, so we'll see how that goes...
Had a great weekend at home: saw a musical with my mom, did some shopping and driving about, discovered delicious corn pasta with my gluten-free friend, and wowed the token snooty English lady in town with the imitation clotted cream I found at the No Frills in Cabbagetown. So that was cool.

Ok. So. yesterday I went to an an interview and found it was not the interview I'd been sent for but was in fact for a different job. It looked like I would be offered my choice of jobs, and would be definately put forward for the job I didn't go for, which pays more money. I have in fact landed the job I wasn't expecting, which pays fully 70% more, and is customer facing, and was only unemployed for 7 working days, which goes a long way toward dispelling a bad fix of paranoia a drunken manager gave me upon my leaving drinks at my last job. It's not often I feel smug about myself, but right now, I'm off up the Wharf to make some bankers feel insecure.

Even tho I quit taking on new clients for Make-up all my old clients have dripped out of the wood work and started calling me. Also a failed event is still going on at my house. I present to you all, my first home brew. It was good. An golden ale, a bit light (I'm comparing to Stone here, it feels very full flavored compared to like, Bud or some other water beer) with some noticeable hop character to it, but not "hoppy," very refreshing when chilled - overall a solid body and taste to it. It makes for a really good summer session type ale, would be perfect to break one out after a warm day of working outdoors to cool off and relax. Mmmm....

I was really happy with the head, puffed up a little with pride when I poured it. I'm calling it Mutt Beer, because the kit I used came with a can each of liquid malt extract for a golden lager and a blonde ale, so instead of doing a separate brew for each and adding corn sugar like it said to, I mixed them so that the yeast would have more nutrients from the extra can of malt extract.

Both! The golden lager one, despite it's name, I guess is still technically an ale, because it used ale yeast. Was just a different roast for the malt and different hop additions they used for it. But they're similar enough roasts that they worked together when mixed, and since they used the same yeast, no problem there.

All the inmates compared their birth years and ages and were amazed that they all added up to the mystical number eleven.

Until I explained that if you add your birth year (1979) and your age (32) it brings you to (gasp) TODAY. 2011. Next year, it'll add up to 2012.

Every financial thingie I have is more or less maxed out, but today one of my clients paid their bill three weeks early, which earned me some 140€. I decided to do a Responsible Adult Decision. I have a phone bill that's 68€, but I don't need that phone for work anymore and I hate talking on the phone anyway, and Elder Scrolls: Skyrim was 69€.

My folks have been to stay for the past few days, was very nice and I'm feeling very spoiled after some slap up dinners. Also, proper tea bags, no strings attached!
The landlord has finally put in a new kitchen this week. I've been asking him about it for a while now and when he's finally got round to it, the leak and the damp that I had been complaining about has meant he's had to replace half of the kitchen floor as well. It's almost done now and I hope this means the end of the random damp and mold outbreaks in my house. What it also means is that I've got a working oven in the house for the first time since April. I can't wait to start baking some stuff again. I reckon first up will be some Toad in the hole with some of the lovely Lincolnshire sausages my folks brought out. Happy days.

The coffee shop where I work has been due to close down when it's license is up at the end of the year which is a shame but something I understand as the owner is mostly in the hotel business and he only got this place for the hostel that goes with it. He has since discovered that being named on the license of a coffee shop presents some real difficulties when trying to get finance from regular banking institutions and so from his point of view I can see why he would rather let it go. however this week he indicated to myself and my manager that he might be willing to extend the license and allow the two of us to take over the running of the place in exchange for a monthly payment. I can't be sure how serious he is about this, it really seems to be too good to be true, but if he really means it then I could really be in with a chance of doing the job I've always wanted and running the place in the way I have always felt coffee shops should be. fingers crossed on that one.

We've noticed that a certain indication that someone in our circle of friends is flat broke is when he starts suddenly eating very well at home, entrecôtes and fillet an such - it means the only thing left in the freezer is the good stuff :) I arranged a small Broke Ass Adults' Evening yesterday, basically we scrounged together some ingredients and had a great late night rabbit roast made by taphead, and I whipped up some creme brulet for dessert. Just a relaxed evening of chatting and overeating with pals, followed by a great night of food coma sleep. Today I used some leftovers to do butter eye buns, which - due to some ingredient substitutions - turned out ugly as hell but just as tasty as they should. Now heading over to Skyrim. What a pleasant weekend.

So, last week I was feeling all slow and sluggish, I had only worked out once during the week, and wasn't eating as well as I could have been. My weight was up about 4 pounds to 172, and my waist had gone up a little, too, to about 32.5" D:

BUT, today, I'm back down to 168.5 lbs, and my waist is down to 31", and my hips down to 41"!! :D I guess I had just been retaining water or something from not having eaten as well as usual. It also occurred to me this morning that I was also on my menstrual week, so that might have had something to do with it. So, not only have I NOT gained back the weight I had worked so hard to lose, BUT, I'm also down an extra inch of my waist and hips, which means that I've now lost a total of 4" of my waist, and 3" of my hips from what I was in July 2010, at which I was at my biggest. Huzzah for good health!

Rhubarb and I went shopping. Didn't get much apart from a trolley load of vitamins, and I'm really not sure what I spent close on 40 quid on, but it was nice to get out and spend time with her for a change and she's great company. She's been a total daddy's girl all week, waiting for me to come home and then climbing all over me, which has been sweet, as she went through a phase of telling me to 'go away, you're stupid'. This was a good day. The boiling anger over the work crap seemed to snap me awake and want me to really do shit again. Today I decided I'll get back to exercising and had a really angry swim, followed by some water massage, which finally opened my neck and back muscles. I also did some ground work for some guerrilla gardening I'm going to do next summer, and finally... I cooked. I found this great looking dish from a tentacle photo gallery of a black metal vocalist I know (amongst Japanese octopus porn and cthulhu pics), and it looked so fun I had to do it. Of course, I went to the shop straight from the swim, so I was totally ravenous and went a bit overboard with the food. Awesomely, awesomely overboard.

Listening to a old band that i love from the eighties called Loop.Man,can they churn out a mean riff.

After a day of early morning London grey mist and venturing to Earls Court for a NA meet(I didn't have time to take my suboxone meds and ended up in the loo squirming on the floor with detox dementia) i feel ok.

I also had my short story 'Branch' published at Cafe Irreal, taking my total stories accepted over the past year to 30

This weekend ventured down to Leeds to see Captured Ghosts as part of the Leeds Film Festival, then hit Thoughtbubble Comic Art Festival, mainly to see Bryan Talbot.

This is the first time at a comic con and I was blown away by the creativity in the room. Definitely making a weekend of it next year.

Something amazing happened today.As some of you may know i've been going through some hardcore hell this year cleaning up my act from a lifetime of being a hardcore dope fiend.As a consequence of my using i had crippled my legs from injecting mad concoctions of class A drugs and deranged mixtures of a travel sickness tablet mixed with other stuff which really fucked me up.I lost every single surface vein and at the end it sometimes took me five hours to have a fix and there would be blood everywhere.I would usually be whining and freaking out.It wasn't pretty.I nearly died from blood poisoning.Anyhow i collapsed this year in the street even though i've not touched the needle for about 8 years..it was because of deep vein thrombosis and totally dead nerve endings etc. Most of this year my legs have been totally numb at times.I could stick a pin in then and not feel a thing.Sometimes it would take me ages to walk a small distance.Soul destroying,ego smashing,despairing,humbling, awful stuff.And it happened as i was in detox hell.
That's not fair,is it?

Today as i was slowly walking to vol work/clinic i suddenly realised i could feel my feet touching the insides of my trainers.And there was a feeling of good pain in my lower legs.I was so happy as i was talking to my woman on the phone that i started jumping on the spot shouting "Yes..yes..I can feel the fuckers".The early winter sun was burning into my eyes.A few blokes in cars etc looked at me as if i was a total spastard mad old git(which i guess i am) but i no longer give a flying fuck how people perceive me.I really don't give a shit on that one.

I don't want to jinx it but maybe they are getting better.If so then shit!!!It will improve the quality of my recovery in a way i had lost all hope on.It really will.

Yesterday I went out, made it to the post office 3 minutes before closing to pick up the boots I bought on ebay, then found a Thrift Store on my way home that is only open Friday - Sunday, where ALL THE CLOTHES ARE TWO DOLLARS, including dozens of BRAND NEW ESPRIT SAMPLE DRESSES (which just happened to have two inch slits cut in the back of them to keep from resale, i suppose) which were all in my size. So clearly, I had to buy a number of dresses AND a pair of ancient bowling shoes that fit me, AND a vintage bowling bag to go with it, AND a leather briefcase, all so amazingly cheap! All priced for POOR people, and not hipsters! WHEEE!!!

Also, I met up with people in Manhattan and I think I ate my weight in fries with cheese and gravy.

Been a good week. Went to review a puppet show for a local arts charity. Not quite bat country but interesting none the less. Very Eastern European animation in feel.

Then took my bike (see below) out for a run to a local pub putting on an arts festival. Saw a friend performing her play about a nurse on the Eastern Front in 1915.

for the past few weeks I've been writing 100 word stories for this group A friend has just agreed to illustrate my short The Smile.

Made my first batch of fudge of the season tonight. My stomach hates me now. I don't even care.

Fudge, for me, is only a once a year thing. From the time we're done with the Thanksgiving leftovers until New Year's Eve, I can make as much of it as I want. But once the new year has come, there is only the fudge left over from the night before, of which there is little, if any. Any other time of the year, eating fudge is blasphemy. So I'm getting my fill while I can.

On more or less a whim, I bought the full version of Manga Studio last night. Although they do have 60% off it at the moment (until the 30th) if anyone's been holding out. I'd wanted to try drawing again for a long time (haven't drawn or painted seriously for 18 or so years), and stupid as it sounds, I'm very seldom anywhere I can doodle/scribble on paper. So yeah, I'll give it a go and see what I can do.

@Flecky - I'm a bit late to the party, but as one git with fucked nerves in his legs to another, congrats mate! Those bastards do regenerate. It's slow, but hell I don't feel someone's driving a nail through either of my feet at the moment (kicked in one of the shins? Perhaps.) and there were years where that's just how things were. Keep up the recovery and soon those nerves could start screaming at you constantly. If that doesn't fill you with the NEED to kill, I don't know what will.

As for me... I managed to find a actual book store that had a copy of the new Terry Pratchett book Snuff. It was the children's book store in town... random. I spent most of my free/sleeping time over the holiday devouring it. Highly recommended.

You know what, if it gets me drawing things again it'll be worth it. I've just become aware of the monstrous, stupid hangup that I cannot draw because I can't bear to waste paper... I have pads and pads of paper, loads of stuff, art materials of all shapes and sizes, and I haven't drawn anything in nearly 20 years because I don't like wasting paper. Jesus wept, I need a damn good therapist...

I woke up this morning.I watched The Descent for about the 8th time.I'm smoking a fag and drinking a brew listening to some cool break beat dance.I'm going into work.

Did ok but not great on the kanji test today. Really good job stymied by brain blocking efforts to remember. How does one get around this stupid thing? However, the conversation in Japanese with sensei went relatively well. She complimented me a lot and I understood everything she said even if I'm still slow at responding because my brain is trying to concoct responses my meager vocabulary can't handle.

Took my dad to get a blood test first thing in the morning. Had to turn down brunch because of stupid community service but I'm insisting on a rain check. Reconfirmed that atheist != rationalist. Someone wrote "ASS" on a back window on my truck a couple days ago, discovered it this morning. Told family I did not have money to buy them stuff this Christmas. [All of these are in the "some one please gimme a vile hug *sad face*" category. It's been a long day.]

Back to good things: watch a cartoon with the niece, steamed some sweet buns for her, my dad and me, there was spaghetti for dinner which I enjoyed with a tempranillo-shiraz (that I shared with my mom).

Before we move on to the December thread, I just want to give a big thank you to the month of November. It was by far the best month of the fucking year.

In this month I found work that got me out of some debts and leaving me room for a spot 'o travel and Christmas gifts for family, I bagged me a wonderful guy and just...all the amazing little things that went down.

Previously on the saga of my divorce... I had my grounds for divorcing my now ayahuasca-and-ritual-crazed wife of 14 years rejected by the courts as insufficient.

Yesterday I heard a second pass was successful.
