Novmember is by a long way the most important month in the videogames industry. Every publisher will fight hard to get their big hitters onto the shop shelves in time for Black Friday.

Games that would excel when released at other times of the year can die without trace if they find themselves thrown into the path of the Fall Juggernaut.

For years more and more developers have questioned this blind obsession with getting product out during this window. There's been a slow shift to moving things into the winter window instead, the most notable game series in recent years to go that way has been Mass Effect. The Grand Theft Auto games traditionally launch near Easter, where they often have an entire month of sales almost to themselves.

This years insanity peaks over the next couple of weeks. Today sees the launch of Uncharted 3 on PS3, and before we reach the end of the month we have Skyrim, Assassins Creed Revelations, Zelda Skyward Sword and the small matter of Modern Warfare 3.

If you're not one of those games, and you're releasing in this period, you are going to get smushed badly.

Bizarrely, nowhere near as many big titles get held till December...

i was going to get The Skyrimming but i have decided to not buy full priced games while i am trying to fix my finances (they arent so much broken as i am just reaaaaal close to being 100% debt free for the first time in 10 years and am in the home stretch). frowns.

have been playing a lot of Pinball FX2 on 360. as a huge pinball fan, every single video game version has let me down, until now. the mrs and i are quite hooked, add us on the XBL if youd like: joedistort and lizdistort

im ashamed that she is waaaaay better than me at this, especially since i totally kill her in actual pinball. oh well. i guess just the fact that she likes it as much as i do is kind of a win?

The big news today is the unveiling of the new Grand Theft Auto game. It looks pretty, but it's too early to get me too hyped just yet.

    @Flabyo Re: GTA V.

Pretty disappointed to be honest. I had hoped we'd gotten a location that wasn't already featured in a previous 3D GTA game. Graphics-wise it looks nice, but I hope we get some news about what improvements they've made since IV.

Loving League of Legends still, playing Red Dead Redemption and waiting for the 11th for Skyrim.

I just started playing Dead Space. Fun, scary, space game.
It's pretty rare that I'm actually on the bleeding edge for new games. I have started Fallout 3 and Bioshock 2 but floundered and will probably restart both after Dead Space and it's sequel.
I never know what game will grab me, but I'm pretty sure about half of it is timing.

That said, I'll probably sign up to get Skyrimmed too. I kind of fell in love with my Xbox 360 because of Oblivion.

I started Dead Space about six months ago, and I an now approximately 5 hours through it. 3 of those hours have been spent remembering how the fuck to play the game.

Scary as shit though. Quite fun.

A now unfortunate passing topic of conversation has lead me to installing the MMORPG Ragnarok Online. Again.
And playing it on a private server. Again.

This is when i currently have to complete:
    Mass Effect
    Mass Effect 2
    Bioshock
    Dragon Age: Origins
    Modern Warfare 2

    ...
    ...
    What am i doing!?

The other day I started playing Fable 2. It's one of the games in my backlog I keep meaning to get back to. It's been so long I started over again from the beginning. Then my copy of Arkham City arrived today. I've been playing that almost non-stop since getting back from work. I love it even more than the first game. I can see myself easily doing at least one more playthrough to get everything I miss during the first run. Though with Skyrim coming out next week.... yeah. Probably not any time in the near future.

joe.distort- don't know if you saw this in the previous thread so I'll just go and re-post-

Also, if you haven't gotten the Williams Collection for whichever system you own, it's excellent and the pinball feel is just perfect. It might be worth waiting for this, though, because from what I can see it's just a matter of time until all the tables from the Williams Collections show up in here.

Also, the Humble Bundle has Voxatron (alpha) with Binding of Isaac and Blocks that Matter. This is just a fantastic little pile of gaming. Highly recommended, even if just for Isaac.

Just got to the last chapter of Dead Space and I am SCARED OUT OF MY MIND! I've seen video of the end boss, ridiculous! Then it's on to Dead Space 2.
Really want to play Skyrim, even though I hated Morrowimd because I didn't understand non-linear games at the time. Cannot wait for AC:Revelations! UNNNNFFFF!
Oh and shameless self promotion; me and Ian/Ravnos are working on a gaming/comic/etc blog called The Critical Table. Looking for other reviewers if Anyone is interested. Contact me at RandomEntity at gmail dot com.

is it good? I used to play Pro Evolution Soccer but it got to the point where the normal difficulty was too easy for me and the hard was too hard.

Playing: Assassins Creed: Brotherhood, Fallout New Vegas and DC Online.
Always liked getting bogged down by too many games/ too little money because you put off a bunch and forget about them, then a year later they are on sale for $12 new and POW cheap good fun

So, Uncharted 3 came out last week. I own the first two Uncharted games and really like them and want to get the 3rd, but...

This week Metal Gear Solid HD Collection comes out. I don't know if I'll get it, but I really want to.

The week after shit hits the fan. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 I am definitely buying, and I will most likely cave and buy Saints Row the Third as well. Then I'm probably going to get pressured by my friend and have to buy Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Then I'll see Rayman: Origins sitting around and have a nostalgia trip, and have to buy that too.

The after that there is Zelda, which I will avoid buying, but will have to play at some point somehow. Okay, whatever, put that on the backburner. KoFXIII might end up good and be really tempting. Same with Serious Sam 3.

At the very least, that should be just about it until January, when Anarchy Reigns come out.

    I'm facing the ultimate test.
    Skyrim vs NanoWriMo.
I killed at Morrowind, absolutely loved Oblivion and I've been looking forward to Skyrim almost as much as SW:TOR.
Skyrim is already paid for. It's only a few days away, I don't know what I'm going to do!

I thought the new Batman game was 'meh'. Same combat as Arkham Asylum just no where near as challenging.
Oh, unless you play on the super-duper extra hard mode. Then it's impossible. I loved the new Riddler stuff though.

I liked being able to travel around the city, but in Arkham Asylum, the joker ringing in every few seconds was cool...
In Arkham City, the criminals down in the city streets saying "I have to pee." every five seconds? Not so much.

The worst was what they were saying about Catwoman. "She's a hot piece of..." this, and "Catwoman has a nice..." that.
It's like, yeah.. she's hot. We get it. Shut the fuck up about it already. Only chronic masturbating tweekers talk like that.
I'm like ten stories up, why can't Batman turn this shit off?

I traded it in for another game called Dark Souls. I guess it's the sequel to another game just like it called Demon's Souls?
It rocks. Infamously difficult to play, but It's my kind of game. Very rewarding. I highly recommend it.
  4.  (10320.17)
Do NaNoRiMo. Skyrim isn't going anywhere.

Also, Dark Souls is pretty much all the gaming I need at the moment. I loved Demon's Souls to bits and this is a perfect sequel in that it's just so much More than the original. Plus it wasn't annual, which helped immensely when it comes to keeping a series fresh.
  5.  (10320.18)
Dark Souls is freaking brilliant. It also encourages, more than Demon's Souls before it, that you drag in co-op partners for the bosses, especially late in the game. They will maul you if you're alone.

That said, it's freaking HUGE, and you can miss huge chunks of the game if you fail to spot some very minor exploration cues. You really have to think outside the box, or pray to whichever deity you currently follow that someone's left you a sign on the ground hinting at what you should do or where to go. And in some cases, I don't feel guilty at all for using a FAQ:

Seriously, developers? I'm stuck and feel like I've explored every damn inch of the gameworld, and then you hide an apparently vital area not behind ONE unmarked illusory wall, but TWO? One of which is behind a goddamn chest that you have to squeeze past? SMH.

I finished Uncharted3 over the weekend. I can't put my finger on why I feel a bit dissatisfied but I do. It's gooooood but........ Not as good as 2. I definitely has it's moments but there's something not quite there with the gameplay. If anyone else feels the same way please let me know your thoughts.

    (very very minor spoiler)
In previous uncharted games your companions would always be shouting at you to find them another way to get where you are, because they're only a girl/a bit too old or whatever. There is none of that in number 3 and I wierdly miss it. I think perhaps their awareness of their own shorcomings and vulnerability made Drake seem more heroic by comparison. Without it... well everyone seems a bit less real.

    (major spoiler)
Also the plot made no sense. If the bad guys are already darting people with hallucinogens then why do they need to go to such lengths to get whatever was in the big gold pot? And the whole secret society thing seemed totally irrelevant. Did I miss something?

Anyway, I'm now playing though Half Life 2 because I have never done so. The graphics are a little old but other than that it stands up remarkably well so far. It'll keep me going till the next AssCreed atleast.

@badbear - I get where you're coming from. Uncharted 3 is a very good game, it just isn't as good as the previous one.

For me it feels like they've dialed up the spectacle at the expense of interesting puzzles and gameplay. The jumping parts in 3 are practically on autopilot.
