Poster Numero Uno says: "I dunno why everyone goes on and on about Sandman. I read three full trades, and I never had a clue what was happening, and by the third trade, I realized I didn't even care. How can you say that, Sandman was one of the best things to happen to comics in the 80's and 90's, and if the quality of the book isn't enough for you, Vertigo probably wouldn't even exist if not for it's success, and think of everything we'd have lost then! On a personal note, Sandman helped get me through a really tough time in my life, and I don't really think something that can do that for someone deserves to get bashed like this."

And on and on, ad inmaggotum. It'd turn very quickly into a list of beef with certain books, writers, artists, or companies, all bookended with the oh-so-polite-and-harmless "look, this is just my opinion." It isn't likely to lead to a broader, healthier discussion of comics, it could cause pointless (and inconclusive) debates, and in the end it just sorta makes the place smell of fan-wank.

Everybody, I'm sure, has at least one "I just don't get why everyone thinks this is so great" comic, book, movie, game, whatever. But it really doesn't do anyone good to have that expressed like this. It's like popping a zit - it might make the popper feel better for a little while, but it doesn't actually fix their appearance or their deeper problem, and everyone else is gonna be a little grossed out at them for a while. It's just too likely to cause ugliness, and The I Did Not Need to See It Image Thread aside, we've no need of unnecessary ugliness on Whitechapel. That's what the rest of the internet is for. If you want to talk comics (and who here doesn't), let's talk about comics we like, why we like them, and why other people here might like them, too. That gets results, and typically happy ones at that.
