@kmcleod: Your entry had me in stitches!

@ Axel Medellin: If Daddy Si ever has us remake/remodel The Four Marys from Bunty, your entry has given me some ideas....

From the start, I knew what I wanted to do for Lorna: give her a partner! And make him as big a star in the strip as she is! Doesn't sound much, but in a girls' comic it would be radical. Girls' comics never gave their ballerinas partners (except on a rare, peripheral basis), much less partners who co-starred in the strip. Their ballerinas were expected to dance solo in their struggles against adversity.

So here I present: Lorna and Larry!

Moreover, as we have been asked to imagine Bunty as something that girls will really sink their teeth into, I added a few other changes to her. Bunty has a new logo (hope you like it!). The Four Marys now have a Facebook. Penny's Place gets a makeover. And I have gone to the ultimate extreme in ballsy for any girls' comic - a serial that tackles the Holocaust. In fact, no girls' comic ever tackled it; their World War II serials were on resistance fighters, underground railroads, and kids on the run from Nazis.

In case anyone is wondering, I have deliberately not put a date on the cover. For one thing, Bunty issues were numbered and I have no idea what Bunty's numbering would be now if she was still running in 2011. For another, I wanted to make this cover timeless.

Hey look! I found the latest issue of Bunty on the stands! It's SO extreme! Finally, some REAL adventure stories for girls.

    @ Paul Sizer

You know, this is one of the reasons I kind of hate this thread. I see something like you've done here and I think "That is awesome! When does that hit the shelves?" And then I remember. "Oh yeah, never. It's never going to hit the shelves."

@ johnjones: Something might hit the stands yet; Pat Mills is working on it. And the Phoenix Comic is going to hit in January. Here is the link to it: www.thephoenixcomic.co.uk

@ Paul Sizer: I love the way Lorna gets her foot in the bad guy's face! Personally, I think it would be even funnier if Lorna was wearing ballet shoes. But then, I guess she wouldn't want to mess up her ballet shoes - they are expensive!

Incidentally, stories about girl spies or girls working undercover were always popular in girls' comics. M'selle X, Catch the Cat, Danger Girl, The Secret Life of Hateful Hattie, Detestable Della, and The Seeker are just some examples which bore witness to that. As part of their cover, some of them even had to adopt unsavoury/sycophantic personas that made them hated and despised by the people they were secretly helping. This made it easier for them to conduct their work without being suspected - but at the same time, harder for them because they had to endure hatred and abuse as part of their cover. Catch the Cat, Detestable Della, and Hateful Hattie are classic examples.

Yes, I too have fallen to the REMAKE curse of wanting something that appears here to be real. Thanks for the good words!

It was literally the worst joke I could think of regarding this Remake. Maybe your brain made you miss it to protect you from a really shitty joke. : )

@HEY APATHY--Your images actually grow before my eyes.

@Paul Sizer--my fuse on your joke bomb was a little slow, but it was worth the wait.

Lorna Drake & the BigDogs - the terrorists took her legs out, the military gave her partners, etc... :)

EDIT: I've uploaded the inked version; the bigger image and the previous, pencils only version can both be found here.

Cheers to all who've participated so far; love @HEY APATHY's and @Paul Sizer's entries.
And thank you @gnilleps, because otherwise I would have missed Paul's "2-2" joke (some things my mind will initially read in French, no matter what :) )

That is awesome, @DMiranda, with the prosthetics that the runners use! I dig the typography also.
And don't worry; missing the "tutu = 2-2" joke is probably a good thing. Don't encourage me!

Actually, when I got the joke, I generated a loud laugh - my apologies, but I will encourage you!

@ Paul Sizer: took me a while to catch on to your 2-2 joke too, but eventually I got it. Hilarious! I wonder you've cooked up for The Four Marys in this new dynamic Bunty of yours?

    @D Miranda: I like yours.

@Evil George: How did you do that glowing ball of Lorna's?

@dnewling: brush with lower opacity, colors: orange, yellow, white. And it supposed to be a flashlight, but you're right, it looks more like a glowing ball.

Really liking this one, from the (possibly unintentional) Ghost in the Shell refernces in Hey Apathy's piece, to the sublime 'Boulevard of Broken Legs' line in Miranda's.

So wish I had the artists brain rather than the coders one. Even my pixel art skills are failing me of late.

@ Miranda- nice work, you depth/sculpting with pencil is amazing it doesn't even need inks
@ evil george- "the mystery solving ballerina" that's too funny, absolutely absurd!
@ Flabyo - hah I am a shirow junkie and I just finished watching both ghost tv series/movies back to back in their entirety so I am totally in that groove

@ evil george: thanks for your response.

I think the skeleton would give readers an even bigger impression that Lorna was a sorceress with a glowing ball. It did with me.
