Listen, I wanted to like Duke Nukem Forever as much as the next guy, but there really isn't a single redeeming thing about that game. It is just awful. You'd be much better off just playing through 3D again, or any other shooter. If you want to blow up aliens, Resistance isn't a bad choice.
Christmas means extra money means SKYRIM FUCKING FINALLY. Except the fella left for his family's place in Georgia w/ our 360 (so he could show his little 360-less brother Arkham City and play WWE '12 w/ him) and won't be back til tomorrow at the earliest.
@DJ Stawes -- I was thinking of maybe getting Bulletstorm, since that sounded fun, had Rick Remender writing, and seemed to be better at that over-the-top manly humor stuff. Was that any good?
I know what you mean. Was playing it all day today and enjoying the hell out of the fixes they recently implemented (NO MORE FLYING BACKWARDS TO ESCAPE MY ICESPIKES, YOU FLYING HANDBAGS!).
I got a Kinect for Christmas, with Gunstringer/Fruit Ninja inside. Haven't had time to put it up yet, but soon!
Anyone else going through the pile of Steam games racking up achievements for Christmas? While I haven't won anything worth having, it's still a great little promo. Incidentally, I've got a free copy of PC Portal for anyone who somehow doesn't have it yet.
Yeah, I've got Orange Box and something called "Mount & Blade". I crafted 7 coals into DOTA 2, but I don't know if it's beta access or the whole game or not.
I picked up Metro 2033 for $5 on Steam. Haven't played it yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to it. I've also been playing a lot of Spiral Knights recently, largely due to the winter-themed Steam giveaway achievement that had in it. That game is pretty awesome, I highly recommend it (and it's free!).
I really should pre-order a Collector's Edition of Mass Effect 3. So many goodies in that box.
Unfortunately, not going to be a lot of time for video games this week, due to being out of town for family. That's probably a good thing; I might actually get some writing done.
So I've been logging a few hours on skyrim. I'm up to level twentythree I think with my "battlemage" character I'm playing. I'm playing as one of my rpg characters from our tabletop rpg. It limits what actions I can utilize in the game though, if I want to stay loyal to the character's personality. She's got a complicated set of morals (we've been using her as a character for years and we basically have every detail of her life decided)...so no stealing (unless it's from enemies), no guilds (so I can't utilize all the perks you get from that). The only group I can allow her to join is the Stormcloak rebellion, because coincidentally, in our stories, she's a rebellious "imperial".
If I ever finish this game I'm going to play a much less noble, evil little lizard man character next (who i'm developing right now for the new tabletop game we're starting soon). I think it will be a lot easier to play an evil character...gonna get him addicted to skooma...i've heard you can do that. He's gonna be a sniveling little thievy character...yay!
I've been playing an Argonian (yay lizard-men!) destruction mage. I think I picked the most marginalized character possible. Everywhere I go it's "I'm watching you, Argonian" and "Destruction magic? Don't go burning down any buildings, now".
At some point I think I am going to have to kill everyone to make up for it.
So me and dad tried out Duke Nukem Forever, and...well, let's just say we're glad that he only paid ten bucks for it. The funniest thing about the game was watching my dad try to figure out how to play a FPS on a console controller.
Being out travelling, I've been Mario-ing it up. More specifically, Super Mario 3D Land (which is really great fun) and Mario Kart 7 (which is probably the most satisfying MK so far).
Just don't pick Wuhu Mountain Loop when doing online multiplayer in MK7, if you care about your points (which I don't really, but thought I'd give a warning). There's a glitch in that stage that has people skipping half a minute of the track.
Kinect set up, and I'm downloading goodies for it as I type. In the meantime, I did test the front end a bit with it. I won't talk to machinery, because it's stupid, and the motion controls are ridiculous. I'd heard the dashboard update was optimized for Kinect but, bad as it is, it works best with the controller. This dashboard update is a complete abortion in useability all around.
