Cheers Hey Apathy, Love the dinosaur. Lovely stuff from mojokingbee, D. Miranda and Richard Pace.

This one's backround was inspired by a page in Habibi:

A large part of my Christmas was spent drawing this:
K is For Kallikantzaroi by Amalgamated Biscuit
All year Kallikantzaroi try to cut down the world tree but get distracted at the festive season and have to start again.

Also I got one of these mysterious implements as a present:

    @ Amalgamated

I love ruling pens -- so much so I think a number of my former students hate them.

Truth be told, they generally aren't made nearly well enough any more -- I hope you were given a high quality one with nice, sharp tines.

As it's my birfday today, I thought I'd crack open the paints and do some painting.(Paints were a christmas present from LAST year- so shows you how often I do this)...

I've practically NO idea what I'm doing with paints - I've got some acrylics and acrylic board and some acrylic brushes (only through years of hoarding bits and bobs) but it's rarely occurred to me to use them in conjunction. The board was the BACK of the acrylic board as the front has a texture and I don't like painting on textures. Though I feel I should be doing something smarter with the back of the board to make it useful (Gesso? I don't know what that is, only that it's... sort of useful for painting?)

Unlikely I'll do much more for a while as proper work is a calling, but it was fun thing to do.

(I drew it using a Faber Castell black soft pencil, then under painted in blue - because ...er... I feel like that's what supposed to happen. Then panicked as I had no idea what colours I should do for the face, so took a photo, and used that as the basis for it it - lost my way towards the end. I've become strangely attracted to the rendering that JC Leyendecker uses of late, and I'd be lying if I didn't have some thoughts of Jock's dredd's in my head when I did it too...)

(ps on my screen, at least, that's pretty much a 1:1 size of the finished piece, it was drawn A4)

@Richard Pace The Ruling Pen seems pretty good so far. It's not an especially fancy one but it can go pretty thin. When I picked it out I also saw a load of other ones for £2 each and thought "bargain!" but every one of them I picked up had a different shaped "nose" and some had a bumpy bit where the ink is held which I guess would make them completely useless.

@pauljholden A nice bit of acrylic painting right there :) I love how you rendered the shadow. MY art teacher drom 12 years ago would love you; he insisted on everyone painting shadow in blue tones.

@suggymoto - thank you! I wish it'd been a deliberate choice and not just stumbled upon chance, but that's as good as it gets!

Oh, here's a second painting. Acrylics are now going away, sadly, as I get down to proper work...

I have the Hellboy figure with the Japanese vampire heads, and the I took a photo to use as ref, but, I think, it came out too close to the photo (I didn't add enough of my own voice to it) but still, mostly pleased with it.
