    Well, this summer, when I was in the middle of the woods in our summer cabin handling the PR of our team who was in New York, chatting with a South-African writer and her British publisher, and video chatting with Whitechapelers while tending a camp fire outside, I just went "damn it's great to be living in the future". But masked vigilante hackers taking on the US government is breaking the suspension of disbelief a bit :)

    Y'know, as a writer for a few lads' sites and a mag, I always try to bring a little self-awareness to the piece to exactly avoid, as they say "hostile sexism." Many of my assignments are about crushing on women, but I always try to do it with respect and admiration, and include personality and intelligence with the crooning verses of physical beauty. Hopefully landing a couple opportunities this week to help define the voice of such places.

    Some men's publishers have policies about how to mock celebrities (and whom you can't) so as not to come off as misogynist. I've always preferred the Esquire angle of being openly in awe of women, but as people, not pedestaled statues. Still, this is going to creep me out for weeks wondering if any of my jokes come across too dry, or my sarcasm too quiet.

    Hawthorne-based commercial space venture SpaceX is set to send its Dragon space capsule to dock with the $100-billion International Space Station -- a feat that's been accomplished only by the world's wealthiest nations.

    NASA announced Friday that the private company, formally named Space Exploration Technologies Corp., will aim to launch its 18-story Falcon 9 rocket Feb. 7, pending completion of final safety reviews, testing and verification.

    In a statement, SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell said the mission "will mark a historic milestone in the future of spaceflight.”

    It’s also a mission that takes the company one step closer to cashing in on a $1.6-billion contract with NASA. The contract is to haul cargo in 12 flights to the space station for NASA.

    The US government has effectively admitted that it totally screwed up and falsely seized & censored a non-infringing domain of a popular blog, having falsely claimed that it was taking part in criminal copyright infringement. Then, after trying to hide behind a totally secretive court process with absolutely no due process whatsoever (in fact, not even serving papers on the lawyer for the site or providing timely notifications -- or providing any documents at all), for over a year, the government has finally realized it couldn't hide any more and has given up, and returned the domain name to its original owner. If you ever wanted to understand why ICE's domain seizures violate the law -- and why SOPA and PROTECT IP are almost certainly unconstitutional -- look no further than what happened in this case.
