    In case some of you missed it :

    Superflies bred to be the first astronauts on Titan

    Artist Andy Gracie is attempting to breed a strain of fruit fly that could survive on Titan, Saturn’s largest moon. The first stage of his work, The Quest for Drosophila Titanus, is part of an exhibition currently touring the UK.


    No yeah, not exactly a science project, but still...

    That sounds like a really bad idea to me. Introducing new organisms into a potential existing alien ecosystem? Yikes. I'm all for terraforming and such, but introducing lifeforms like flies to a place that may potentially already have some sort of existing life just seems a bit ethically dubious and way too much like one of those 'unfortunate incidents' referred at the start of a sci-fi novel.

    When the first flies were introduced, the venture seemed to be a startling success...

    @keyofsilence - I belive that they don't need threats to behave like that. Their seclusion is so severe they don't know any other reality besides the one where their dear leader that shoots miracles out of his ass every second just died.
