Quick poll that I think belongs here instead of being its own topic:

Where do you guys generally go for your news of the strange or paranormal besides here? I usually check out this forum, Fortean Times, MUFON, Paranormal News and occasionally get a few salient leads to other sites from there but I haven't found a really solid website for weird news gathering. Any places I should be checking out for that sort of thing?

Hackers aim to launch their own satellites, put the net beyond the reach of governments.

An interesting challenge for sure, but will governments sit by and let people stick whatever they want up there? I do wonder when we're going to see the rules on sovereign airspace extended into space.

Nah, they'll probably just shoot missiles at them, I'm certain.

So, this is what "Santa Claus" used to look like up here in the olden times. There was some discussion about this earlier this month, don't remember if it was in here or just in social media with some Whitechapelers chiming in. In any case, the Finnish word "joulupukki" translates literally to "yule goat", and then there's "nuuttipukki" (St. Knut's day goat) that was up and about early January. These characters used to be scary things that came into homesteads to demand foodstuffs and booze. Giving gifts and hearty ho-ho-hos, not so much... Actually a saying went "the evil Nuutti will take away the Christmas".

How not to get on the good side of the jury when giving your name...

There's been a whole spate of shootings in the UK this week. Not sure if it's any higher than normal, or if there's just not much else happening so they're all being reported on the national news. Couple of them have seemingly been whole families in their homes.
