@Paul - "starting"? Like always, it's been ramping up since the word "Go". Loving what I'm seeing so far...last final in one hour, then I'm hoping to get in on this myself.
Just I thought I'd throw this in - the 2000AD forum did a redesign Dredd competition back in 2004 - here are the entries, Matt Timson won that one under an early alias.
The hammer/blade to the left is just there to clarify what is on her badge - it combines a gavel for being judge, dots for a jury, and a blade for being executioner (all pulled together on a badge for her being part of a police force). I streamlined the costume a lot because I wanted something more practical for being able to quickly respond to ongoing criminal activity, and the helmet is made to look a little more like an executioner's hood without impeding helmet functionality.
@dnewling: I know from previous exchanges you're keen to get some useful feedback, so let me remind you just here - for your benefit and everyone else's - that this is a REMAKE/REMODEL thread. Your entry looks great and, yes, is pretty funny, but you've simply drawn Dredd as he currently exists. That's called fan-art. The rules at the top of the thread make it very clear that what we're interested in is a new look.
It's great that you're involved in every new challenge, but - dude - read the rules.
I'd be more than happy for you to enter another image to fit the criteria. If you want to do so, make sure you delete your initial one first, okay? One entry only.
Loads of good entries! Neillcameron's, Clone Artists's and Dbed's are my personal favourites.
I like Judges hunting down perps and locking them in iso-cubes but I also like 300 page graphic novels about introverted men, so I thought I would combine the two:
My first post! I mixed classic Dredd elements with modern riot gear and a nice little justice department armband for that fascist feel. I also got rid of that weird thing that comes down the middle of the visor because even as a kid I always wondered why they'd obscure their vision that way.
