So, as I've mentioned I was considering in the Open Mic a couple of times, I've bitten the bullet and booked a flight and a bed at a hostel in New York for the 23rd through the 27th, in an extreme effort to avoid my family on Christmas.

I was wondering if any of the good boroughfolk of Whitechapel might want to meet up, grab food or drink or just hang out with me at any point during those four days.

Also: I will cook for you in your own home if you have BBC America and were planning to watch the Doctor Who Christmas Special and wouldn't mind me hanging out and watching it, too.

This idea sounds AWESOME. Unfortunately, I've already told my grandparents I'd be going to see them in Florida...

I've only been to NYC once before and have been thinking about going back sometime soon. Good luck with your adventure!

I'm always up for a NYC meet-up. I'll be out of town from the evening of the 24th until probably late into the 26th so I don't know if I'll particularly be around to see anyone save for something on the eve of the 23rd.

I also do not have cable and will not watch the Xmas special until my friend downloads it for us. Alas!

Eve of the 23rd works. I'm meeting another friend for a quick drink downtown around 6. We could meet after that?
  4.  (10400.5)
if I'm not dead from this death sickness and fever, or from some other sort of birthday related doom, I will meet up with you. Yay. I have no cable, though.

As another note, I'll be in NYC for a few hours in between trains on January 6th at around 10:45pm. Will only have about three hours or so, so only time for a drink or two. I'll be by Penn Station, but could probably make my way down to Union Square or some other place?

I will be around the evening of the 23rd for pints and pictures with some whitechaps. In what den of iniquity shall we convene to consume, carouse, and conquer?

@oldhat, there are not many acceptable watering holes in that area but I will poke around to see what can be found.

Also, The Way Station will be open on Christmas Day, and having a live screening of the Christmas Special.
  6.  (10400.10)
Sweet. That's my Christmas Day sorted, then.

And if you're still incapacitated by death sickness on the 23rd, Rachael, I'd still like to bring you platonic flowers and/or ice cream on your Birthmas Eve.

As for the 23rd, as this will only be the second time in NYC I'll leave the venue to the natives (I kind of want to go to PDT, but that would require me running back to the hostel to change after drinks with other friend. As a rule I do not go to speakeasies in anything less than slacks, dress shirt, waist coat and tie. I'll probably hit that on the 26th if anyone wants to re-meet then.)

And other friend has cancelled on me, so I'm available from probably 5:30 on, tomorrow.

Alright, we need a venue. Speaking as a native I would recommend someplace in the east village since it seems as though your hostel is near there. I would guess it is the joint on 7th but I would warn against going to mcsorleys or anyplace that is Likely to be swarmed with tourists. Jimmy's # 42 has a great tap selection, otherwise we should settle on a place that is a little off the beaten track. Maybe botanica or Tom & Jerry's or skratchers would work. I like skratchers simply because it has no sign except for the hobo code symbol for 'safe camp'
  8.  (10400.13)
Botannica, I think, has become a place where swarming happens. Where Is Jimmy's #42?

Bar 82 (on second at St Marks) is a place that I walk past almost every single time I go there. It's generally pretty uninhabited, so I'm assuming it would be non-touristy. It is NOT to be confused with Bar 81, next to Blue & Gold. I know one of the bartenders, and the music played is usually pretty fab, but t's not really a cozy place, though. What about somewhere in Alphabet City? That's not really touristy yet, is it?

I am ill, but I will make an appearance. I think.
  9.  (10400.14)
Actually, my hostel is in WIlliamsburg (I know, hipster central...), so if you'd all prefer a Brooklyn venue that'd work for me.

I'll be away from computer by the time people are awake again, so I can be reached via e-mail at daffydlejeune42[at], or tweet at me @netsowndavidl.
  10.  (10400.15)
Oh, really?! Oh, that makes it both easier, and more confusing. Less tourists, most definitely. The only bar I know in Williamsburg is the Turkey's Nest, which is a divey sports bar, and we don't want to go there.

I am down for Williamsburg, assuming I won't be even more sick. It's closer to me.

Suggestions? @Glukakke or @Bankara? Anyone else?

My voice might be completely gone by the time I see you, if I get out there.

The Iona on Metropolitan is a good joint, has a backyard, good taps, has been there since forever, and is just all all around good English style pub without a great deal of pretension.
