Comics I'm picking up this week: 30 Days of Night Ongoing #3 -- Sam Kieth's art is beautiful Secret Avengers #20 -- Warren Ellis and Alex Maleev bringing you a story about Black Widow doing a secret mission. Terry Moore Sketchbook Vol 01: Hot Girls & Cold Feet -- I love Moore's work. Such simple lines used, such distinct characters, and characters that actually look like they're aging as a story progresses. How could you not want a sketchbook by this man? Witch Doctor Resuscitation One-Shot -- Brought to you by our very own Brandon Seifert.
Comic I'll get in trade: DMZ #72 -- Final issue of this series. It's been so very good. Crossed Badlands Opening Salvo -- Not sure what to think of this. Sure, it's the guys that did the original series, but really, does it need to be expanded upon? I might skip this.
If anyone here wants to try WITCH DOCTOR who hasn't yet, shoot me an email at witchdoctorcomic@gmail.com. I'll let you read the first issue of the series digitally, for free! (Just please don't share it.)
@Warped Savant, @Beamish and @Pow, thanks for picking us up!
Really do have to wonder what kind of place you have to be in in your life to write an issue of Crossed. I won't be reading this one on the basis of Jacen Burrows' art has always creeped me out for some inexplicable reason.
@Flecky - I'd imagine it really only appeals to people who have already read and enjoyed the book/TV show. I can't think of any other benefit converting the series to comic form would bestow besides that of being a cheap cash-in.
VENGEANCE (this was maybe my favorite corporate series of the year, so stoked!) SECRET AVENGERS WITCH DOCTOR'
im a little tempted to pick up the last DMZ even though im about 15 issues behind, just to see where it ends.
and not to jump on the band wagon, but i gave up on CROSSED as well. this is double crazy because i loved the first one, and david lapham is one of my all time favorites...but PSYCHOPATH felt like gore and blech just for the fuck of it, with very little social commentary/deeper meaning besides 'people are fuuuucked up'. while thats a fine thing to be, im just not interested in it. i actually just sold all my crossed stuff on ebay last week, so hey, at least someone else can enjoy it and i could recoup about 50% of the costs.
I wonder what the sales difference was between the first series and the two that followed was. And then to see how the sales for this newest one starts. (Seeing as how it's by Ennis and Burrows I could see the sales being decent. But at the same time, it's an ongoing series that will be changing creative teams...)
"I won't be reading this one on the basis of Jacen Burrows' art has always creeped me out for some inexplicable reason."
Probably creeps you out because it's quite realistic and the people all look different and consistent throughout the series' that he draws. I would equate it to the uncanny valley.
