    I'm not an expert but to help out all you westerners, that there is a Shi'ite Imam and more than likely a Shi'ite Mosque as the venue....(Shi'ite or Shia Islam is a denomination of Islam)..this can be worked out because of the fondness for wearing black and the decor behind the Imam and other clues which I'm not gonna go into...

    anyway part of the Shi'ite tradition is the concept of physical suffering and self-flagellation in remembrance of such things as martyrdom and the deaths of holy figures revered in Shia Islam, so you get shi'ite muslims striking themselves on the head, chest or in extreme cases whipping themselves....and you get conflict between Shi'ite islam and the other main denomination 'Sunni' islam due to differences in traditions such as the concept of self-harm....

    While wierd, I was expecting more when I read "Muslim rave party." I was hoping for Ex and glow-sticks. :O

    Guess its some kind of Musharram/Ashura celebration...

    You want to see proper Muslim ravers, check out the Taqwacores.
    Among their bands are the Kominas, Vote Hezbollah and Secret Trial Five. Kominas are my personal favourite.
