this is by no means a 'best of', since everyone likes different stuff- but what were your favorite single issues? not story arcs, mini series, or two parters. just one issue of a comic book.

off the top of my head (ie: im sure im forgetting like 10 more that are great)

THOUGHT BUBBLE anthology (gorgeous newsprint fold out with lots of cool stories from new and 'famous' creators)
UNEXPECTED anthology (big fat vertigo book with some cool horror-ish stories from a host of vertigo alumni. this sucker is like 80 pages of rad)(shut up, i love anthologies)
and WOLVERINE: DEBT OF DEATH (one shot of total craziness with wolverine, nick fury, samurai death robots etc etc. beautiful, stark art by david aja)

tell me yours and remind me of what im forgetting.

    That's tough. I have four.

Casanova: Avaritia 2 Why, Kung-Fu panda murder, lets be honest, Casanova is one of the best modern FUN comics out there. I was having a shit day and the pile of comics sitting next to me had a man, ninja-ing against 2 attacking panda bears, needless to say, my day got a bit better.

Batman: Knight of Vengeance 2 Why, Flashpoint was pretty neat but most of the cross overs were pretty awful. Batman: Knight of Vengeance was the exception. Azzarello rarely disappoints and was given the keys to the castle (before the new 52 keys were disbursed) and just twisted everything on it's ear. Seriously, read this comic, it's won't let you down, but I won't spoil.

Secret Avenger 17 Why, could've picked 16, or 18 or hell, any of them. Ellis does me well with his Secret Avengers run. Seventeen, is a reminder (like Cass) why I love comics.
The idea of the Avengers vs a demon semi-truck is priceless and watching CAP run poll with the group, again a truck, was beautiful.
If nothing else this should win for best line in comics, “YES! Pilot Marko Shoots stupid Yankee zillion-Dollar plane right in its stupid bluddy face! Where is your buddy Steve Jobs tricknology now, rich Yankee pigs with your tight pants?”

Invincible Iron Man 500.1 Why, another Fraction, that's cheating right? Well, this is Fraction on a different level. Tony Stark has a life long battle with the bottle, and like everyone he has to go to meetings. IIM 500.1 is that, an AA meeting. From start to finish, sure it flashes to good ole comic fight scenes, but this is about a superhero dealing with an addiction the only way he knows how.

@Beamish - yeah, that Ironman at the AA meeting was one of my favourites of the year too.

I haven't bought as many singles this year compared to last, lets see...

5 Ronin : Wolverine - the whole 5 Ronin miniseries was pretty fun, but I like the story idea in the Wolverine issue a *lot*. He's not a regenerating superhero...
there are actually a whole clan of them, all somehow appearing to be almost identical
and that's how the 'myth' of him coming back from the dead perpetuates.

Osborne : Evil Incarcerated #4 - The mini as a whole was good fun, but I *really* love Emma Rios' art on the first page of this issue.

I'll have to have a dig through my pile and remind myself what else I bought this year.

Hickman didn't mistep once this year in my assessment, but I will single FF#600 out because I was so sure it might be a let down, and it hooked me like a 1970's annual, where important stuff went down, and all of my waiting was rewarded. Plus it didn't pull any punches, and gave me a few "Aw Jeezus!" shocks. Plus, it was a return from the dead story that I didn't feel screwed over by. Hickman's SHIELD issues were great as well, but FF seemed to be where his heart was.

BATMAN INC #6 was pretty perfect too. it encapsulated everything good about that book and was essentially stand alone. remember when it came out and everyone said "oh, this shouldve been the first issue!'? thats why.

ELEPHANTMAN #33- 'the Shaky Kane issue'
i dont follow this book regularly, but this was too gorgeous to pass up. genuinely unsettling medical horror weirdness that is self contained enough to make sense to anyone who can pick things up on the fly...maybe the creepiest book of the year that i read.
  4.  (10412.9)
-SPIDER ISLAND: CLOAK AND DAGGER #3. Emma Motherfucking Rios goes full on bananas.
-DMZ #70. That scene where Zee walks out with Matty...
-DAREDEVIL #6. Wisely written, vividly and cleanly drawn. A superhero comic with wisdom, heart and inspiration to spare.
    -NONPLAYER #1.
-WONDER WOMAN #1. Talk about setting up your aesthetic...

(edited 23 hours later to add:
ACTION COMICS #897. Lex Luthor discusses things with the Joker. Paul Cornell shows his absolute mastery of the characters.)

Ok, so it came out in the very last week of the year, but the last of Warren's one-shot Secret Avengers stories (issue #20) is a fantastic little time travel bit of warpedness starring the Black Widow. Maleev on art as well, it's wonderful.

I tracked down a copy of THE INVINCIBLE IRON MAN#500.1and it was a good read.Quite special.

Still looking for BATMAN INC#6 even though i've found most of the early issues.

I also managed to find some of Warren's SECRET AVENGERS but not come across #20 yet.

It's hard work going through tons of back issues but it's nice to find something your after.Saying that i need to have a moan about variant covers but this aint the place.
