I picked up Rhythm Heaven today. Sadly, due to a combination of moving this month and Valentine's Day, I haven't had time to play, but it's there, being musical and wonderfully mad in the way only the Japanese can do, waiting...

Well, they've announced the BAFTA nominations, and Bastion didn't even make the shortlist in 'best original music' category.

They have no souls. YOU HEAR ME EVERYONE AT BAFTA? You're DEAD TO ME.

I would say that the video game industry is the worst when it comes to awards, but then there's the Grammies.

Edit: What the hell is FIFA doing as a best game nominee?

Edit 2: Okay, I have a problem with at least half of the best game nominees.

Not awarding innovation is a longstanding issue of video game award shows.

So guys. Mass Effect 3 demo. I may be losing my shit over it a little. It's pretty amazing, though I do have to wait until tonight before I can play the multiplayer portion of the demo.

@Morac - I'm avoiding the demo entirely. I know I'm buying it, and so there's no need to play it. (also, Kingdom of Amalur is eating ALL my evenings at the moment anyway)

I was going to do that (I've already pre-ordered the collector's edition - so many goodies), but my willpower was just too weak.

Anyone played Dear Esther yet? Should appeal to whitechapel folks! :) Whilst there's no "gameplay" exactly, it's a gripping game. Beautiful and dark and moving, like some sort of living poem. Also one of the most beautifully designed games I've ever played, especially by merit of the fact that the designs aren't just pretty scaffolding on which you climb walls and shoot people. Never imagined the source engine could look so atmospheric.

    Dear Esther Trailer

Also, the European release of The Last Story just came out of absolutely nowhere - pretty much the first time in about a decade that I've walked into a shop and seen preorders for a game before I'd heard the announcement on the web. That's out later this month, tentatively looking forward to it.

Plus, Journey announced for March release!! :) Really looking forward to a new take on co-op gaming.

    @Morac

Am I missing something about how to access ME3 Multiplayer? I preordered the XBOX 360 version, and downloaded the demo, but it says I can't access online features yet or something.

@Govspy: The multiplayer didn't get enabled until sometime last night (around 9PM PST) except for those with a code from either Battlefield or some Facebook promotion they were running. If you were trying before then, try now. If you have tried it since then, it is entirely possible that EA's servers are getting hammered (and not in the getting drunk sense, I mean in the giant fucking sledgehammer sense).

By-the-by, the multiplayer is amazing. Gears of War style Horde Mode with mini-objectives (kill the targets, defending this particular point, activate these objects) + Mass Effect leveling + CCG-style booster packs containing limited use items as commons, new weapons as uncommons, and new characters as rares. It can even have an effect on your single player campaign (though being completionist in the campaign will net the same results). I think I'm in love...

@Paul: I was just headed here to post about Dear Esther. I'm downloading as we speak and will update later. It looks amazing, I haven't played through the mod or map it's based on. The few reviews I've read of it seem to be having spastic fits from not being able to properly categorize the game and distill it into a rating number that does it justice or makes sense of the experience.

Daym, had forgotten all about Dear Esther. Shame it's not on Mac, but looks like a reason to *shudder* boot the computer to the Windows XP side.

Yes, I played Dear Esther in its HL2 mod form several years ago. I remember being impressed, and I'm very pleased to hear that they've made a go of it commercially - I think I read that it made back its production costs in six hours (at a £7 price point).

ETA: But I hadn't seen that trailer. That looks bloody lovely. Do all Source engine games look like that now?

It's moving week for me starting last week and lasting until the end of the month. You'd think moving week would be, as implied, a week, but it always takes forever to get it done. No gaming for me at the moment, otherwise I'd be strolling through Dead Esther, and maybe getting beyond the second set of Rhythm Heaven levels.

I did manage to find some time to check out Space Fighter 4000 on the Xbox Indie Games channel, though, primarily because it's by one of the guys responsible for the 3DO game Star Fighter. This is more tech demo than game, but I'm still feeling all sorts of nostalgia-y. :)

It seems like a non-zero number of you folks have XBoxes. Do we have some sort of gamertag exchange setup in place?

Mine is MoracExMachina, for the record.

There was one a couple years ago. I think I have a couple of you on there from that.

I am not active on the X-Box Live thing but my tag is tedcroland (too obvious?), if anyone wants it.
