I found out about this on the Atompunk mailing list and felt it deserved its own thread. These photos are really incredible.

tl;dr: Amazingly ballsy Russian girl sneaks into working missile factory, takes pictures and posts to LiveJournal, gets warning letter from government, wins sport of urban exploration forever.

From the original post to Atompunk:

    ---
This is great on so many levels.

    http://gizmodo.com/5873441/this-girl-sneaked-into-this-russian-military-rocket-factory

And Gizmodo Senior Editor Jesus Diaz is [rightfully] head-over-heels:

"While some of these rooms look decrepit and abandoned, the factory is active. In fact, the government is really pissed off. The authorities sent her letters saying that her situation will get "much worse" if she keeps posting photos from the factory.
"But Lana doesn't seem to give a damn about it [read: honey badger don't give a shit], which makes me want to go to Russia, become her friend and party hard for a whole week. This girl is cooler and more badass than I will ever be. That or she's crazy.

"In any case, I love her."

Original post in Russian with many more photos on LiveJournal... of course: http://lana-sator.livejournal.com/160176.html#cutid1

Stunning pictures, slightly worrying that someone can just wander about a Russian rocket factory at random though...

Pretty amazing story, and like many have said, great pictures. Reminds a bit of the recent Greenpeace invasion of the French Nuclear Facility.

    @roadscum

Yeah, that does kinda seem to deflate some of the funness of the whole thing. Let's hope that whatever would-be terrorists don't have someone as badass as this lady in their unit.

That's probably one of the reasons why the government is threatening her if she keeps releasing pictures.

Great, so that's where all the XP went. There are no more points left for anyone.

So the Russian tack here is to send emails saying 'don't do that'?

You know that if this were the States she would've been picked up while she slept and woken up in Gitmo right?

If that was in the US she would have been picked up the moment she passed the perimeter fence. D:
Those are some amazing photos, I agree! There's something about photos of stuff in disrepair that's just so damn interesting.

This is the reason I'm so pissed off that I don't speak Russian... I'm living literally next to the biggest UE park in the world, ie. the former Soviet Union, but going to these places really requires that you are quite fluent in Russian :/

So, I was talking to my boyfriend about this and he says that the exact same thing happened (also in Russia) a while back, only it was a photo shoot with some model and so it wasn't a real sneak in to begin with (but they initially posted the story as if it had been). Said he did some research when he read this current story and it doesn't seem to be linked to the same group who did the other faux break-in, but thought I'd throw that out there (though this one seems legit).

    Holy crap.

No worries, just a working missile factory and threats from the government.

Sweet Jesus Fuck this girl is badass.
