Haven't been on here in a while, but it looks like you folks are killing it. Congrats all around.
I'm still working on a book of my own short stories. And a novel. And another novel. And a comic script. And a book of poetry. I'm in the 10-45% range on all of them. Why must I try to do everything I think of?

Today I'm thinking of giving up on a piece I already submitted. The editor wrote back with some suggested changes, which are not only pretty contrary to the stated guidelines I was following, but also seem to contradict with similar recently-published pieces on the site.
I can't tell if this is bad editing (and if I should offer some gentle suggestions on how to be a better editor) or if they're trying to say something more like "hey, we don't really want to work with you, but, welp."
I've written for them before, on another section of the site, and had a not-great experience (they thought my review was "harsh." I thought I justified my negative reactions intelligently. They didn't invite me back after it was published).
I'm halfway through a snarky response into a text file, thinking of whether any of the questions I have are 1) worth asking / 2) salvageable in a constructive form.
I worked as an editor. I was a good editor. My writers liked me. Is editing really that hard? Do you all have a bad time with editors?

Here it is: the new
issue with my Slenderman article as cover feature. Out to subscribers now, on the shelves later this week.
Feel like I levelled up, right there.

Dragging the thread out again, just because I have something new...
Latest edition of
the Fortean journal Darklore (vol. 8)
has my "Believing In Fiction: The Rise Of Hyperreal Religion" - and
you can read it free here
(Though if you can afford the book, get it 'cos it's got some great stuff in there.)
(And I need the royalties.)

A while ago I mentioned a series of stories I'd been working on about how people on bedsits are haunted by the past opulence of the houses the bedsits are located in. Well, this summer I got invited to pitch are project and have now being funded for a project called Haunt looking at homelessness, transient dwelling, haunting and haunts in my hometown.
Really excited to be the lead artist on this project. I'll give you more details as the project develops.
