@E-Ray: That's pretty much it and then an extended goodbye where I do a thumbs up and point out that my thumb is double jointed. Actually, all of the tips of my fingers/thumbs are double jointed. Which is worthless except for being able to have long nails and still make pizza crusts without damaging the crust.

@allana - everything! well, mainly your shooting/lighting setup, but I'm also starting to get really interested in that weird area between still photography and video. So any rants on that subject will be read with interest.

So some things happened.

Thing #1: Allana posted that couch picture. I was like "oh, cool. click."

Thing #1 Addendum: I did not actually say "click".

Thing #2: That picture led me to Guest Directed Self, which is awesome. I desire to be a part of it, despite having neither a tumblr nor respectable camera stuff.

Thing #3: While working on something for that, I 85% accidentally take my FAVORITE SELF-PORTRAIT EVER.

The look on my face is me thinking "holy crap, my towel is like exactly Obi-Wan Kenobi brown."

Yeah, the GDSP has been good and inspirational. It's nice to be reminded that my complete lack of imagination is the only thing standing between me and everything. PS: Do you have a tumblr?

@256, I totally ranted in this space a bit but then forgot to post it and then my computer logged me out and I lost everything.
The setup is pretty simple. My entry-level DSLR (Nikon D40) is mostly only good with natural light, so I just scooted myself as close to the window as my tripod would allow. I did exaggerate the blinking for the camera (the shutter isn't fast enough, on auto-focus, to capture more than a frame a second) but didn't slow down the inhale/exhale enough as I should've. The reason I got frustrated with making it into a GIF was directly from trying to time each frame's duration to the way I wanted it to show (quick eye movements but a long, drawn-out exhalation).
The thing about the slider as I have it now is that it's just a big cheat; behind that "window" is a really long filmstrip with each frame loading as the page does (they're only 20kb apiece, so it's okay, but longer animations will become a problem. I probably won't be able to use any of this implementation if I ever get a self-contained embeddable object up and running, but it's okay for a first draft. jQuery: you win some, you lose some.

There was more, but it actually wasn't that good of a rant. More questions? Do you have any experience with the "weird area"?

Thanks y'all, I had a blast shooting at the Tattoo Con and am furiously editing the work, some of which will undoubtedly show up in the photography thread. The Enigma was about the nicest guy you could imagine meeting.

@anchorbeard, the artist who made the design on my shirt is Jeremy Fish, I love his artwork. I picked this up at Upper Playground in SF years ago, they still collaborate to produce t-shirt designs. A couple of years back he did a book / 7" record with Aesop Rock called "The Next Best Thing" which was like the old Winnie The Pooh storybook / records I got when I was a kid. There was an audio cue cut into the song that would prompt you to flip the pages of the book so that you got a music video while listening to it. I love this shirt and am wearing it into dust. I got a lot of compliments from folks at the con on it who were familiar with his artwork, which was kind of the point of wearing it since I have no tattoos to show off...

Take inspiration from The Enigma, you don't have to cover every inch of your body in tattoos or sink prosthetic horns into your head or snip little pieces of your ears off to own your appearance. You could, if you wanted to, but it can be much, much simpler. Likely less painful too.

awww, thank you!! Lip liner just has to be close-ish in color. For the red mine's almost exactly the same. They're a little different, but both are definitely "red." It helps to get it close in color, that way if you want to touch up the outline after you put on the lipstick, you can just smooth it out with the liner and it's not obviously a different product. But generally, the same general color will work, I think.

I'm trying really hard to remember to document outfits and stuff. I know it sounds superficial, but it's really more about how clothes are inanimate objects that I think are fascinating. (Insofar as aesthetics != superficiality. For a long time I was a super tomboy, but I always bought weird vintage stuff and then was too chicken and style-illiterate to actually wear it. And I've always been too flighty and fickle to be able to do interior decorating well; things need to change on a day-to-day basis, or they just end up being eclectic to the point of nonsensicality. Rant rant.)

These pics were taken nearly a year ago, but they're the last pictures I've taken of myself, and I've just now been able to get them off my camera. I lost the camera for a few months, then the USB cord went out, and I didn't have an SD card reader. But I got one of those new computers that does fancy things like read memory cards.

I was trying to get photographic evidence of my gray hair. It almost worked.

I didn't mean to start this today. I even took a picture a few days ago. But I failed to follow it up so I decided to scrap it and try again. Today it worked out. Hit the marks, got the flickr account running, downloaded then uploaded the image. All set. It's only an accident that it happened on Ash Wednesday. *shrug*
