    Suppressing the northern hemisphere reaction involving hysterics about funnel-webs, red-backs and every other kill-you-as-soon-as-look-at-you creepy crawly that were thankfully isolated on the other side of the world from me, the best part of this Arachnopocalypse is the name of where it took place - Wagga Wagga in New South Wales, Australia. Which, it seems, I'm incapable of reading, thinking or saying without doing so in an Oz accent.

    @ Kradium: No complaints about that here. It finally replaced soddingtwattingbastarding Th* F*n*l C**ntd*wn by Europe which has been burrowing around my head since BBC breakfast news included it as an example in a piece about ear worms earlier.

    @ Laz: Apparently so, yeah. But, as a friend just pointed out, albeit as an instantly tarnished silver lining, any remaining human inhabitants (namely, those who don't fancy the idea of becoming minions of the Spider Empress and moved back to civilisation asafp) probably won't be having any problems with mosquitoes or midges for the time being.

    Should've added this to the original post but think incessant skin-crawling distracted me a bit, sorry.
    ...the increase in spiders posed no danger to people - and that they should be grateful, instead of frightened. And if it is a dry summer next year, the spider population would drop back to its previous levels.
    "The spiders don't pose any harm at all. They are not aggressive and only bite if they face a severe threat or their lives are in danger. They have a mild venom, so if they were to bite you, you would only get a bit of a headache and some local pain.
    I'll let everyone draw their own conclusions about the last part of that "reassuring" statement.
