    @Osmosis: had that one for a week or so, it's really fantastic. Made almost entirely on Oberheim Two-Voice synths, and it's got a real John Carpenter vibe to it. I managed to get an advance copy because I interviewed him about it for a magazine. Now I want to make mixtapes with it, but I have to wait til after May 8th... (Awesome, I got the release date wrong... it's out! Mixtape ACTIVATE!)

    @Texture - John Carpenter was my jumping-off point, too - although the Vangelis Blade Runner OST was another reference point I picked out. It's very good.

    At the RECOFan record store in Tokyo, found a 1995 CD compilation of jungle tracks which must have been massive at the time: Roni Size's Timestretch, Remarc's Sound Murderer, Goldie's Inner City Limits, Leviticus Burial, some other stuff I've never heard of... Going down nicely.

    Also found a 2 step garage comp targeted at Germany (of all places). A lot of Artful Dodger on there, as well as usual suspects like Phats & Small, Luck/Neat, Zed Bias, Wookie...

    I swear Simon Reynolds has totally taken over my brain.

    Both were ridic cheap as well. BONUS.

    Wasn't sure where to post this,here or in Around The Net, but I guess here will do fine. I know a lot of you like Death Grips, so here's an interview I did with drummer Zach Hill. He gave me some pretty amazing insights into the band's process.

    People are always asking how we make our music, how we use samples – we would talk about music concrète, stuff like that, and that's absolutely true – we often make music out of material that other people wouldn't think to use. Like for instance we might take a sample from YouTube and then build a whole song around it with these more hi-fi instruments, and then erase the sample from YouTube so it's not even in the track. There's a lot of recycling and destruction that happens in the making of our music.
