I was digging through the archives of my GMail account and found that I had saved a decent chunk of Bad Signal there. I read through a couple and remembered how good it was; some short goofy posts, some very deep and thoughtful posts ("Burst Culture" is my favorite...) but all good things that should be available to those who missed them the first time around.

On a whim, I wrote a quick Python script to loop through the contents of the mail archive I have and post them to Tumblr. The fun part is that I was able to take the date that the email was originally sent and have Tumblr use it as the date of each post, preserving the zeitgeist in a way. I ran a couple of messages through the script to make sure it works and things look pretty good to me.

I know I don't have the entire contents of Bad Signal locally and flirble.org doesn't either (it actually has less of it than I do). There's a chance some of it's on warrenellis.com, but the archives there taper off at some point and I didn't go back very far to see what is or isn't there.

All of that being said, in order to create an archive of Bad Signal in its entirety, there's a couple of things that I think need to happen first.
1.) Have Warren's permission or blessing to throw the whole thing up on Tumblr. I don't know if he has plans to publish this in the future or has some other idea for it, but it's his work and I wouldn't feel right doing it without his go ahead.
2.) Obtain the rest of the posts. I have posts from May 4, 2006 (which is entitled "Cough Splat") to the very last post on January 1, 2010 ("The End"). This is entirely dependent on #1 so I haven't though a lot about this one, but I think I have a couple of different options.

What do the rest of you think? Worthy endeavor or fairly pointless thing?

You have
successfully subscribed to Bad Signal, you poor doomed fool.
Wow. There are 1,022 results for a "bad signal" search in my Gmail. It's funny, because I always tell people I'm a big Warren Ellis fan, but here it comes I haven't read Planetary, haven't read Transmet. I know, I know. But that right there, that's why I bought Black Summer, why I bought No Hero, why I bought Scars, why I bought the rest. But 2005 - man, I was a completely different person six years ago. Although the comics are their own endorsement, that kind of consistent presence, that's why I'm a Warren Ellis fan.

Thanks, gjmiller, for the reminder.
