Colour? Don't talk to me about bleedin' colour! I have successfully buggered up the calibration on my big monitor and have just hit the point where everything either gets switched off and left till tomorrow to sort out or chucked out the window.

@Alastair - nothing's changed. The white/grey distinction is very small, so even a slight change in the angle you're viewing the screen can make them homogenize.

I am trying not to bask so hard in the satisfaction of having completed some CD cover art & design I did for a friend that I forget to work on the 2013 support staffing plan I need to turn in on Tuesday at the place that gives me all my real money. It is Washington's Birthday here in the states, so I am working in my apartment.

I'm solidifying my resolve to declare attention bankruptcy in my life this year. I cannot keep focus on all the things I want to do, and threads keep slipping away. I'm going to just concentrate on the job that pays me. The rest of my energy will go to eating, exercising and sleeping. That's it. No other plans for 2012. Anything else is just free time that will be spent however I feel like it at whatever time, with no plans, commitments or deadlines.

Right this moment I'm about to brush my teeth and put my braces back in, then throw some laundry in the machine and fire up my work laptop. TOO MUCH EXCITEMENT WOAH WATCH OUT!

Had a fucking rough day, my bank account has been blocked since Thursday so I've been surviving on the semi-sentient bacterial cultures that the food I had in my fridge will probably have turned into by now.

On top of that, after the bank manger at my local branch had erroneously informed me that they blocked my account because my passport had expired, a situation it would take at least two months to rectify, I had to go to a job interview with my brain filled with images of me telling people I would not be able to pay them back money I owe them (landlord, flatmate, various friends and companies etc) and them taking their revenge in a number of vicious and unnecessarily creative ways. I don't know how well that went.

Been listening to a lot of Murder City Devils, reading James Ballard's THE UNLIMITED DREAM COMPANY and trying to get bandmates to fucking finish recording their fucking parts so we can finally fucking release a new fucking album and/or book some fucking gigs.

Going bloody mental trying to hack my Wordpress theme into shape for the new site, and being frustrated that a perfectly straightforward process (setting up an email account on my new domain) has turned into an ongoing pain. Bloody thing just WILL NOT accept a password from me. Checked every setting, reset the password multiple times, still no dice.

In good news though I got my hands on a c.1910 wax cylinder Dictaphone. It needs restoration but this I shall do, and thence fulfill my ambition of releasing a recording on wax cylinders, because it's the age of Bandcamp and Soundcloud and I'm fucking perverse.

I've also gone my first 9 days without a drink in a few years. Vitamins, sleep, exercise, good food, daylight, plenty of challenging work, hopefully it'll stick this time. By way of an object lesson my stepmother's sister died during the week. In her last days, unable to use her legs, she had convinced a cab company to bring her a liter of whiskey a day from the local off-license. When I met her in the early 1990s she was drinking like I have been - at the end of the day, to take the edge off it. The new rules: never on a school night, never alone, never more than 3 beers. So far I have preferred not to drink at all. Hopefully that's the new normal.

I can't get to sleep any sooner than dawn. Does work happen, then, between evening and dawn? Not precisely. Well, sort of. But not the work that is most pressing. That's why fuck this.

Tomorrow is Mardi Gras. Eat all the cookies, drink all the wine... day dream about all the sex I don't get to have. Today I'll settle for some basic food and coffee and just not hating myself. Next after writing this is studying Japanese for a couple hours, cleaning my room and a shower somewhere in there.

new job is eating my sanity and face (somewhat literally on the face part....) working ungodly hours. Also found out a co-worker is apparently jealous of me (after two weeks of working there?!) I have a seeking suspicion that i do not want in my mind- that she is sabotaging my work via the oven. Let me tell you that ALL of the programs in the oven shouldn't be set at 980c working out what to do about that....

It's 2:30AM and i've probably pissed off my house-mates more than usaul. Having said that, I've watched the first half of the series 'Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex', gotten two weeks of work uniform ready, cleaned the toxic wase dump that was our downstairs toilet, had a general clean of the kitchen AND washed two week dirty pans belong to another housemate.

I'm suffering form some from of comodo dragon (or as others are calling it, man) flu and the idea of sleep is both pleasing and ellusive.

Today I will be hoicking out a load of notebooks and hacking them into some semblance of 'shape' and then I need to work out how to prop up and set to record stuff from my phone so I can rehearse/write material for a routine.

Currently sitting around in my underwear writing this. Had a job interview yesterday and have three more that I'm currently being considered for/waiting on interviews. They've all come during the last month of my unemployment insurance so that's good, but it'll be better when I can say that I actually bagged one or more of the jobs. I'd say the interview went well and it looks like I'll be invited for a second and will be meeting all the heads of publication.

At work, mostly happy and content, slightly miffed that all of my interactive fiction ideas grow up into huge epics, when all I need is something bite sized that could be written to beta in a week and played through in 15 minutes. Writing! More than I have in ages. Currently working on a new short story as well as going back to some of the others I've done already this year to look into maybe extending a couple to full story length. Also working on my second attempt at a Future Shock submission for 2000AD. The first one is on it's fifth round of edits because I wrote far too much and there's deadwood to cut and burn.

To help with my renewed efforts on the comics front I've been reading a lot of scripts including - THIS - which I love and want to own now. Also plotting out a new long form comic having just had an artist I gave a script to years ago e-mail me to say he's actually working on it(!)

So yes, I'm feeling creative and writing whenever I get the impulse so that I don't get lazy again. Last year was a huge failure on the creative front, so I'm determined that this year WILL be my year!

Meanwhile, still trying to calm down after watching a documentary about a notorious case in the Philippines which resulted in an innocent man being imprisoned and facing the death penalty despite being 350 miles away at the time the crime occurred.

Literally now I'm just faffing around on the internet, watching youtube and listening to music and now posting here.

- I have been writing 2 songs, a acid house and analog noise scape track, respectively. Finally did the Reaktor 5.6.2 update, at 5.1.2 previously, getting used to the new GUI. Reading some RPG books: GURPS Ultra Tech, Shadowrun: Augmented and a variety of 3E Dungeons and Dragons stuff.

- Playing System Shock 2, still... Tested the official Bethesda HD Texture pack for Skyrim; looked good, but my processor choked.

- Caffeine and Benzodiazapines (clonazepam for haywire anxiety).

I am recovering from a Terrible Leg Incident and using my time "productively" by planning the next 6 months of my record label (Aural Sects), as well as finalising tracks and performance points for the live debut of my witch house music project, Pe† Ceme†ery.

Currently re-reading Warren's "Crooked Little Vein" whilst reading up on numerous other less interesting topics. Also preparing to lament my 25th Birthday on Sunday (Terrible Leg thing is pretty much physical confirmation that I'm no longer made of rubber)...

Second post in here maybe stretching the spirit of the thing, but it has been a hell of a day:
-Made my 9am tutorial despite extended noisy yelling in my flat most of the night.
-Dropped into meeting of the uni Palestine Society to hear a detailed, powerful and pretty horrible account of life under Israeli occupation.
-Raced down to catch Mark Millar and Frank Quitely do a Q&A at a local arts venue.
-Raced back up to attend a presentation called "We Are Legion - The Networked Multitude and Citizen Insurgency" in which the speaker repeatedly quoted the work of Biella Coleman and Kevin Slavin without proper attribution - for which I made him pay during the Q&A session afterwards.
-Got my out-of-work friend Captain America a job.
-Gave empathetic support and light relationship counselling (stifle that hollow laughter please) to traumatised flatmate.
-Watched another episode of Homeland.
-Drank five cups of exceptionally good coffee.
-Not over yet, jazz night starts in a couple hours...
I am the lightning storm happening in my brain.

Just finished wrapping up a ukulele, strings, tuner and book so they look nothing at all like a ukulele, strings, tuner and book. Needles to say, the largest box contains the smallest item. I suspect the inclusion of a small package containing earplugs and labelled 'For The Neighbours' will get me thumped.
