    yeah the raid was pretty good. Popcorn stuff, but good.

    Also watched Dead Ringers, which I liked, but wasn't quite as off the deep end for Cronenberg that I like a lot more.

    Watched Darkest Hour last night and really, really wish I didn't. Such a dull, plodding piece of tosh where invisible aliens cause people to act really stupidly and become piles of ash.

    Looper Teaser Trailer. I'm still amazed that Hollywood hasn't destroyed Rian Johnson for being so absurdly fucking talented and never doing any studio pictures.

    LOOPER looks fun. Ever since I saw BRICK I've been pleasantly surprised by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

    Tomorrow I will buy DRIVE :)

    Shishe! Looper looks really good! Never even heard of it before, but now I want to see it right away. I'm loving the amount of interesting sci-fi happening in recent years. Maybe I'm just more awake to it, but with Inception, Moon, Source Code, Looper etc it seems as if there is a genuine public interest in interesting, reasonably complex sci-fi.

    If you liked Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Brick, you should see Mysterious Skin, also from his initial This-Is-Not-Third-Rock, I-Am-Not-Just-A-Sitcom-Kid period after the TV show ended.

    The Cabin in the Woods was really fun and I enjoyed the hell out of it. I loved the way it would be fulfill and subvert expectations of that type of movie. I will say no more about the movie because doing so would inadvertently spoil some of it. This is a movie you really want to see unspoiled.

    Cabin in the Woods gives away a lot of the unusual premise right from the start, but this is not to say it still isn't full or surprises and delights.

    @StefanJ - Well, not really though, does it? You still don't really know why they're doing that until the clues start to come together and the reveal isn't really there until COUGHCOUGHCOUGH shows up.

    @Everyone who has seen The Cabin in the Woods

    I understand that they must be standard on control panels, but if I ever get my secret lair or moonbase or whatever,
    I'm either disabling the Big Red Button or giving all my minions a keychain dongle that will deactivate the self-destruct sequence.


    Because, really, WHY WOULD YOU HAVE THAT?!

    Cabin in the Woods is the rare sort of film that I can't really see any type of film enthusiast not get behind in some way. I get not liking horror, but I've become something of a film snob in the past couple years, and I loved the shit out of it. Well shot, good acting, the jumps and scares aren't contrived, the humor is right on, the macguffin is super clever and the thesis (while not super eurofilm wank deep) is interesting and explored fantastically by the way the story unfolds.

    Caught a screening of Morgan Spurlock's new documentary "Comic-Con Episode IV' today. It's a nice sloppy wet kiss to the geek community. Nothing really hard hitting, but a great deal of fun, and certainly put a smile on my face. Wonderful to see some of the personal stories play out over the con, and to see Stan Lee work a room.

    THE SNOWTOWN MURDERS is a bleak bleak, black hole of a film, but if you can endure it, it's a pretty damn good piece. It's the first film by Australian director Justin Kurzel and features an amazing performance by Daniel Henshall playing John Bunting, who is known as "Australia's worst serial killer". It's a bizarre character that is very hard to shake. The fact that he's a real guy makes it worse.

    I enjoyed Drive: Was superb.

    The Avengers thing is having it's European premiere in West London. Not that I'm going, like. I'll let you guys dissect it's subtle nuances instead.

    'Nuff said.

    Edit to add: Drive was even better the second time I watched it. Gotta love the soundtrack...

    Saw Tyrannosaur last night. Definitely not a first-date movie or those wishing for some light relief. It's a pretty hopeless film (thematically), but as Considine's directorial feature debut it is incredible.
    There should be a new category created to give Peter Mullan and Olivia Coleman some kind of 'best tragic double act ever ' acting awards. For those who have only seen Coleman in Peep Show, wow.. girl's got skills.

    Taking fiancee & friends to see Cabin at the Woods tonight. Looking forward to it. Prometheus & Avengers are on my list for HAVE TO SEE.
