    @JP - sounds like you might have missed reading the fb comments on the right of the photo. Someone mentions that they wouldn't have to go as far they just both went towards each other across the bottom.

    How much of anything can you do in the e-world without reading? The use of any computer above the toddler-entertainment level is dependent on at least some literacy in the user. Operations can be learned mechanically, but still, the main element of a keyboard is letters, and icons take you only so far. Texting may have replaced all other forms of verbality for some people, but texting is just a primitive form of writing: you can’t do it unless you no u frm i, lol.

    It looks to me as if people are in fact reading and writing more than they ever did. People who used to work and talk together now work each alone in a cubicle, writing and reading all day long on screen. Communication that used to be oral, face to face or on the telephone, is now written, emailed, and read.

    None of that has much to do with book-reading, true; yet it’s hard for me to see how the death of the book is to result from the overwhelming prevalence of a technology that makes reading a more invaluable skill than it ever was.

    Dear Galaxy Zoo Mergers Participants,

    Thank you for all of your contributions to Galaxy Zoo Mergers
    (http://mergers.galaxyzoo.org). Since we first launched, you've viewed over 3 million simulations of interacting galaxies. Of those, you pointed out about 60,000 that you thought were worthy of additional study.

    Doing the data analysis on this project has been tricky. Initially we thought we knew exactly how to sort through those submissions. However, when we realized how overwhelming the task was, we turned to you again for help, and you provided even more amazing assistance. By judging over 800,000 Merger Wars competitions, you helped us sort
    through the list of 60,000 and identify the top simulations. We've used your feedback to single out the top 290 simulations for the 54 galaxy pairs from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey that we've studied together.

    Going from 3 million simulations to only 290 is incredible, but we still need some final help with three important tasks:

    1) Pick the Best: Find the very best matches to each galaxy by reviewing the top rated simulations

    2) Simulation Showdown: Determine which galaxies have the best models by doing head-to-head competitions of models and target galaxies

    3) Merger Wars - HST: Find the top matches for the last 6 galaxies taken from our HST selections
