So, I'm gonna be heading up to Toronto at the end of the month to see the gang there, but rather than my usual (preferred) method of blasting down the highway with the radio as loud as possible, leaving a trail of dented cattle and strangely aroused female highway patrol officers in my wake (hahahahaha, alright Alan, let's ease off the whiskey while we're asking the nice people our questions, huh?), I'll be taking a train north. Part of my route will involve a 1a.m. to 7a.m. stopover at Penn Station - no train leaves for Toronto before then, and no train arrives in NYC later.
My question then is this: would anyone be willing to lend me a couch for the duration of my stopover? If I were stuck during the day I'd just try to tough it out (managed to spend most of a day-night cycle stuck in Atlanta's airport, so I know it's possible), but I'm not crazy about being alone in a train station in an unfamiliar city during those hours, especially not since I'll very obviously look like a traveler, what with a big bag and all.
I'll pay you in bottles of either a strong coffee stout or an oatmeal cranberry stout, as well as good-old-fashioned American greenbacks, for the trouble! -

I'll still ask around, but a problem might be that everyone I know lives in Brooklyn. :S

What the date? I might be able to arrange something but there are two caveats: I have just fielded one inquiry from another friend around the end of the month AND there is kind of a height restriction. My couch is very short, people over 5'8" tend to be uncomfortable. The good news is I am in Manhattan and only two stops away from Penn Station on the A-C-E line. If things work out, and you can stomach my procrustean bed, then I may be able to help you out. Let me get back to you on this.

Doesn't Penn Station have lockers? I'm sure you could stash your bag in one and wander for a bit (and the bars don't close until 4, iirc, so you could get some drinks in some place). -

@Bankara, it'd be for, technically, the morning of the 24th. I am EXACTLY 5'8", so that couch would probably work out just fine - if not, I have slept rather comfortably on I-kid-you-not cold stone floors, so I'm pretty easy as far as that goes, and I'd only need the space for just a few hours.
@David: While there's a part of me that really does want to just walk around Manhattan at night and just see the place when there are no tourists around, the smart move I think would be to find a spot to get a little shut-eye for even just an hour or two, rather than try to stay alert in the middle of the night in an unfamiliar town (the only time I've been to New York at all, I was in Glukakke's quite hospitable clutches). -

@David, lockers disappeared after 9/11. And I would offer to put you up but if Bankara works better, you should go with that. I'm farther away. -
