I haven't been this excited to buy, unwrap, read, and re-read a comic in a long, long time. This is also the first comic in a long time where I was actually surprised to see what happened from panel to panel, and I was laughing in anticipation the whole way.
Anyone else had a chance to pick this one up? If you have four bucks on you, I can't recommend it enough.
This looks excellent. Definitely grabbing a copy next time I hit my LCS. I may even already have one in my pile (LCS guy has a pretty good idea of what I like/dislike).
i liked it about as much as i expected...which is to say, sort of. (hahaha vagueness ahoy!) ive not been a fan of most of BKV stuff. hes good, but the way his characters talk and lil things like that has never been my particular cup of whiskey. It was definitely beautiful though! Staples is definitely killing it here. cant tell if the hand written narration is an amazing idea, or a too-cute thing that will eventually just be annoying. overall: good, but not the crazy-amazing thing most people have been saying
Sooo good. For a while there I was on the fence about giving Vaughan another shot after ditching comics for so long, but he totally knocked it out of the park. This and Manhattan Projects starting a week apart has made for a good March.
It really is beautiful. and I can't remember the last time I cared so much about the characters right off the bat. I'll be adding this to my pull list for sure.
Bought up three copies of this last week - one for me, one for my artist buddy, one for my TA. Think I described it to others as the kind of stories I wrote as a kid - and that's a great thing. Most fun and adventurous book I've read in some time.
Just adding my favorable $00.02 to the pile. I am going to buy another copy when I get paid again, to share with people.
Personally, it's like someone is finally writing *for me* again, which is a vibe I'd forgotten about, and thinking back on, haven't really felt so thickly since Transmet ended.
Picked up issue two today, and though the reveal on the last page felt a little incongrous to me, I loved the rest of it. So much sheer inventiveness on show here, and no small amount of heart, too.
I gotta say, I love that the freelancers aren't just badasses covered in tactical gear who've been everywhere and seen everything. I mean, some of them are probably that, too, but (not counting Deadpool) how many bounty hunters have you seen that called their targets "sister" when they've got them cornered?
Yeah, there's a definate humanity to the two we've seen so far, which in The Stalk's case makes her that little bit creepier too I think.
She's happy enough to casually off Marko, and then apologising for doing it in front of Allana made her seem even more callous to me. Then again, she was at least kind enough to suggest that Hazel was mercifully killed before the horrors arrived. The pragmatism of her decision to run away was a nice touch, too.
Also, I love that they all seem to go by titles, rather than names - just another one of those things that adds some colour to the comic as a whole.
It's such a nice little bit of worldbuilding that demands no exposition of itself, which is a hard thing to pull off. Do I know why they all have titles? Nope. Do I really need to know? Double nope.
