The problem with air-rhinos is they're much swifter than you'd give them credit for. Himalayan air-rhinos especially so.

We were outside for a short bit, which is where the goosepimples started. By the time this photo was taken, she was plenty warm. The texture is nice. Plus, you know, suffering for art, etc.

Add tripod, cable release, and a bicycle trip round the city's circumference and you get this. The Creole Queen and a commercial tanker barge whose name I failed to catch.
Sazerac at Tujague's. Not the absolute best version of the drink in town, but not the worst, either, and they make it the exact same way they've been making it since absinthe was outlawed and Herbsaint was introduced. The bar itself has been largely unmolested since well before prohibition.

Cropping/resizing aside, how many of you use some kind of...ha, don't know the proper technical term for it, sorry...some kind of "processing" once you get the pics home or onto whichever gadget you use to view them? I'm tempted to say "photoshopped" but, besides all the other image editing software out there, that term can be misinterpreted too easily. I don't care either way - stunningly gorgeous is still stunningly gorgeous, regardless of how it might've been manipulated before it hits my retinas.

This lovely Austrian gentleman below rode his push bike across the globe searching for meaning in his life. He has lived as a Buddhist monk in Sri-Lanka for the last 28 years. He is most excellent and we now exchange emails. His are markedly more interesting than mine.
The last two have nothing to do with Buddhism at all, unless you're being abstract.
@The Mighty Foamhead As far as post-processing goes I use Aperture, which is a mac-only photo tweaking type affair. Personally (and I really think these things are uniquely personal, there are so many ways these shots can end up and it's entirely up to you how little or how much you want to tinker) the more I shoot, the more I try and get nice results out of the camera and tweak just a little. @The Mighty Foamhead - I'm a Lightroom guy as far as post processing goes. I do like to experiment with the software to see how it can offer different expressions of a photograph. It's much more intuitive than Photoshop (although it does lack some of the more robust capabilities of Photoshop as well). That plus Silver Efex Pro gets me all of the nice black and white conversions that I can manage. Thus, I hardly ever use Photoshop. But like Jehrot, I'm really just finding my feet as far as 'serious' photography goes...]]>

I know the satisfaction of producing an image that's perfect (i.e. finished) when it comes out of the camera, so to an extent I understand why some people make this a philosophy. But, actually, working on photos after I've taken them is one of my favourite things about photography. If I look at a batch of photos and find that there are none that would be better with a bit of work, it's almost more disappointing than if there are just no good photos at all. Which I think is interesting because, while you quite often hear film photographers say that they enjoy spending hours in the darkroom doing this or that with their negatives and prints, in the digital space post-processing is almost invariably a vile burden or insidious corruption of pure photography. I don't know why that should be.
I also don't know for certain why I like the post-process as much as I do. Certainly I'm more interested in the way that photography doesn't represent reality, and thus has no particular claim on authenticity, which is underscored by taking an image and totally screwing with it (collage, composites, image stacking, combining different exposures, post-texturing, etc.).
The other side of it might be that the act of taking a photo is extremely time sensitive (blink and you'll miss it), and (in the case of portraiture, which I love most but find hardest) depends on interaction with another person, both of which can be quite taxing. Whereas post-processing is contemplative and solitary. I don't know that I would want one without the other.
