    "B&H, which is anyway shuttered while the angel of death passes over our heads and smites egyptian children."

    bah ha ha ha ha...

    But wait. Can you explain why welders glass? Like, the green stuff? Is the idea the same principle behind the special effects of the transformation into Mr Hyde?

    It is in fact rather green but if you know you are converting to B&W it don't much matter. It is cheaper than an ND filter and allows for longer exposures in full sun. These were 30 seconds at f8, ISO 50 on a partly cloudy day. Took me a little while to get the hang of it but it is lots of fun, if a little tedious since my camera is so old and slow. Now I am going to end up spending more than what I would have on an ND filter for a new wide angle lens with which to have some fun with this technique. It gives me an excuse to ride my bike around the waterfront and to look at the world differently.

    My first trip to the B&H store in NYC...I immediately said, "oh, so that's why you folks are always shutting down the website on Saturday!"

    My second thought was that a photo essay of the orthodox Jews of B&H would be really cool. (Which is, I'm sure, a thought that pretty much every customer of B&H has at some point or another.)

    (Cool work with the welder's glass, I may have to give that a try to see if it would fit in my ND holder.)

    @ Bankara: i have seen some wonderful pictures taken through welder's glass, that is one of them - like an industrial Taj Mahal it is.

    @ mangler: Filter holder? Blu tack has a multitude of photographic uses...

    It is spring here, believe it or not. That just means all the snow is... slowly melting. Still, the light is nice!

    These were taken on Tuesday.

    More New Jersey! Turkey vultures are creepy, yet compelling.

    So yesterday was the start of the French Quarter Festival, the beginning of the festival season around here.

    The crowd in front of one of the stages, with the original World Trade Center looming in the background. The artist playing is Alex McMurray, a guy who's absolutely huge on the local scene, but who pretty much never gigs outside of city limits.

    Sazerac at Tujague's. Not the absolute best version of the drink in town, but not the worst, either, and they make it the exact same way they've been making it since absinthe was outlawed and Herbsaint was introduced. The bar itself has been largely unmolested since well before prohibition.

    And last but not least, the special at RBar. Shot of Jameson, can of PBR, $5. Don't ask to try on the bunny mask. They just might let you, and you Really don't want to know where that thing's been.

    @Renee, nice!

    I used to be really concerned with quality over quantity, but since I've been on 500px I really just use Flickr as a file-dump. Is that okay?
