This month's theme is FAIRY TALES. Take what you will from it!

1. THIS IS NOT A CONTEST. There are no "winners" in this. It is strictly a photo challenge where you present something based on a theme given for the challenge. There is NO COMPETITION.
2. You may submit no more than 3 pictures per challenge.
3. If you feel like you need to explain your work, please feel free to do so.
4. SERIOUSLY, THIS ISN'T A FUCKING CONTEST.
5. You will be given ONE MONTH to complete the challenge and post it.
6. Photoshopping is allowed, but don't go overboard and please use only your own photos.
7. For clarification, please submit ORIGINAL photography. Meaning: You took this picture.
8. The picture must be taken for this challenge. Meaning, please don't dig up old photos from several months ago.
9. Ideas are randomly selected and submitted via e-mail by members and can be anything from a single word, to a poem...anything, really. See I tend to use the phrase to refer to societal lie, usually of a romantic nature (everyone has a one true love, overcome your adversities and you'll find him/her/it, etc) .... I'm not exactly unromantic, I just think we tell ourselves a lot of hooey just to get through the day and not get bogged down in hopelessness. Also, I hear a lot of women STILL telling themselves all kinds of bullshit about men that amounts to a modern day version of a princess kissing a toad...Lie is a strong word. It's not a complete fabrication, but it is the misleading crap we tell ourselves in order to keep trying.

So when an actor acquaintance posted this amazing shot of him as a transvestite hooker, complete with black eye I thought THAT, that's what I've been thinking. The fairy tale of being who you are wherever you go and the world will open up to you. Well... the truth is the world will do something to you. (Meta-bonus, Trevor - the actor in the photo - is an utterly straightlaced, white, blond, born again Christian from middle America with moderate Republican views. But he's dedicated to acting so he absolutely dives into whatever is asked of him. Does it get better than that? Oh Hollywood, sometimes your fucked-up-edness makes beautiful things happen.)

I have been thinking of some thing like the above, the falseness we tell ourselves and what it looks like in reality. But then my friend Susan posted this picture of herself from Burning Man and (well first, I'm not gonna lie, it's breathtaking - I knew she was good looking but I didn't realize just how stinking HAWT she is, good fucking god) and it reminded me of the dark cabaret style demon circus type fun my friends and I have. The Doctor Parnassus, the Carnivale, the Cirque Berzerk style of extravagant madness where tricks can maim and treats cost your soul... If a fairy tale takes place there I don't mind getting lost in it.

Hm. Which way to go. Sadly the house I would instantly have thought to use for playing with this idea doesn't really exist anymore. The creative bunch that lived there have gone their separate ways. Dammit. So I have to ponder this for a while longer.

Incidentally, Susan has a business that sell her handmade, full size hula hoops. They are terrific and quite a workout!
