A question for the masses - though I might serve myself better asking on Can Haz Help thread - what is the term for this kind of gross out storytelling? I remember reading it a bunch when first introduced to Ellis and this somewhat applicable in Crossed. But I mean, the sort of mundane disgustingness of making dolphin eyeballs into a delicacy because dolphins were no longer in any danger, etc, that we first came across in Transmetropolitan. The sort of storytelling that goes into extreme detail of the grosser than gross things that the particularly deranged/degenerate people driving the stories get up to. Not horror porn, that's just the ultra horror stuff of the Saw movies, but I mean the stuff that is supposed to jolt the reader who is inured to violence and scatological jokes. The stuff that makes those of us here at Whitechapel sit up and laugh when poor sods get hacked to bits.

Looking for that term to do some research on art installations that do the same to the more artsy set. I'm working on a play centered around an art piece made of roadkill. More likely it's a bit of mayhem set up by the Crossed to draw out survivors. At some point, the dumber Crossed should do each other in, leaving the smarter ones who are a bit more creative. But they had to get the cow and grenade from somewhere, and that suggests that there were other organized survivors. And if it was done by survivors, why torture the cow?
