    •Layout and Storytelling – Here’s one that we’ve been waiting to bring back. Last offered in 2010, Ty Templeton’s Layout and Storytelling will teach you how to assemble the building blocks found in the essential language of storytelling:

    INSTRUCTOR: TY TEMPLETON


    From thumbnail layouts to finished pencils, this art focused course teaches you everything you need to know about the unique process of telling stories with pictures. Learn to THINK like a comic artist as well as how to CREATE like one. Essential learning for future Marvel zombies, Indy artists or Web comic creators. While basic drawing skills are helpful, they are not necessary.


    Duration: May 7 – June 25 (no class May 21)

    Time: Monday evenings 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

    •Expressive Anatomy – Leonard Kirk returns with his popular workshop whose process will arm you with the confidence and ability to construct the complex - and often daunting - human head and hands.

    Expressive Anatomy

    INSTRUCTOR: LEONARD KIRK

    A comic book artist, like a film director needs actors to tell his story. Cartoonists have to breathe life into their characters and the best way to do that is through their facial and manual expressions. From Will Eisner to Alex Ross, artists working in the medium of comics have had to be expert in this regard.

    In this course, you will begin by learning simplified methods of drawing the complex shapes of the heads and hands – basic anatomy will be covered. Students will use their own faces as reference and learn to utilize photo reference effectively. Exercises will involve the student producing short narrative pieces that involve characters showcasing the potential of human expression. If you want to learn to draw everything from grimaces involving bone crunching fisticuffs to the nuanced glances and feather touch of a romantic love scene, Expressive Anatomy is for you!

    Duration: May 10 – June 21

    Time: Thursday evenings 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

    Cost: $395 + HST

    Credit: ½ course, 7 weeks
